RE: Instead of having Conlon as a target man You reckon he has a lack of strength?? Not quite sure which Conlon you are thinking of.....I agree that it would be better to play the ball into Hayes and Nardiello's feet - but sometimes you have to react to games and yesterday we were playing the ball in the air far too often, which is why I belive the game was crying out for Conlon earlier than when he was brought on.
RE: It's nowt to do with where he came from... For the first few months of the season he was our best player!!
RE: It's nowt to do with where he came from... We have and have had far worse players than Barry Conlon
Your arguement does not make sense... we are playing too many high balls,so bringing on a player that is supposedly better at dealing with high balls is the answer? No,the answer is to stop playing high balls!! And, for a big man,he does not use his strength that much. Bit too much of a John Pearson for me
I never claimed that he was our worst player... but if we are talking about players being good enough to take us up...Conlon isnot one of them
RE: Your arguement does not make sense... I agree that we should have stopped playing high balls - but in games against teams like Scnuthorpe, who make it hard for the opposition to play attractive football, you have to adjust your team to the way the game is going. If Torpey had been taken out of their side and put into ours, with Hayes upfront, we would have pissed the game!!
So Torpey is better than Conlon, that's what we are saying..because he is what he is...a centre forrad bruiser who our defence could not cope with....you can never say that about Conlon It does not have tobe attractive football, just don't do what the opposition are forcing/expecting us to do
RE: I never claimed that he was our worst player... Q)who were that last team of "Good Footballers" to get promotion out of this division A) Non e during the time tyhat Barnsley have been in it. Well Organised teams have so playing 'ALE HOUSE' football
RE: That... Sorry but I have to dissagree. I think Conlon, before he got injured, was the player that stood out for us in the early part of last season. He held the ball up well, brought other's into play and scored an handful of goals!
I thought that at first... and then watched closer as we struggled to score in games and more often than not Chopra (or an other) would be on the edge of the box, isolated and Conlon who had started the move and brought others into it very well would be 20 or 30 yards behind him as he is not fast enough to get forward either in his feet or his brain
RE: I said his first touch is great !!! My point is "PAL" if he could get his speed up to that of a glacier or make a turn in less space than an oil tanker he might get a first touch to make use of!
RE: We need some players with some bottle and aggresion then.. He shows plenty of aggression. Hes another option, and that alone makes him a very important part of our season, so why are still whining? Youve just decided you dont like Barry Conlon and thats it.
When? Do opposing managers ever say "we could not handle Barry Conlon", just like we could not handle Steve Torpey last night? No, Idon't think they do. He's not an option. He's Ritchie's only choice.
RE: I thought that at first... Maybe thats because hes coming to hold up the ball, brings it down well, and plays it back or out wide. Hes bound to be behide play. FFS !!! When hes playing hes our " target man " our players look for, and plays it well enough. (we cant and wont play it pritty every move)
