It is. It's a perk the council are giving their employees. Do you see people on the next treadmill to the gym getting arse on cos your monthly fee is a fiver less?
Can't see a problem with it - I get cheaper gym membership because I work for Liverpool City Council. Same thing in my eyes
But what about those who haven't yet fallen for BFC? My grandad moved down here from Scotland to work in the steel work. His new mate at work asked him if he fancied going to a Barnsley match, and he became a fan. If he'd been asked by a Wednesday fan I might be going to S6 on a Saturday now (shudder). If someone at BMBC gets an email about the deal who isnt a BFC fan but is interested in going to a football match we might get a fan for life
You assume all workers at BMBC are reds fans..... what if one of them isn't and chooses to come to oakwell because he's had a great workplace incentive offered to him by him employers.
Im sure somebody on here works for bmbc and can confirm it. Im pretty sure that who told me wouldn't make this up
So really your just being argumentative cos its cheap barnsley tickets. Which is a bit well childish.
Im absolutely certain tories dont like public sector and letting them get something cheaper than a private employee will grind the gears of many a tory scum. But im also sure 90% of posters would have understood what my tory comment meant aswell
I assume nothing of the sort. I'm explaining for about the tenth time why gym memberships and match tickets are not comparable. Many council workers won't support Barnsley or even be from Barnsley but they will have the opportunity to get cheaper tickets than someone who is. Doesn't seem right in my book.
You'd not give two ****s if it was for wildcats or steelers tickets that's being offered as a perk so stop getting on your high horse over this.
How did you become a BFC fan? Mate as much as I like to see debate on here, you are talking absolute ballax !!!!
I heard about this yesterday night. I was told that Ben Mansford approached council leaders with the offer, but I don't know how true that is. If it is then full marks to him. Sounds like a good idea to me. Barnsley council is one of, if not the largest employers in the region. If this tempts new fans to the club then great. I understand that other people also do important jobs in the private sector and work very hard, often for low pay, and may feel slightly aggrieved that they have to pay more for their tickets than council workers, but I hope this won't put them off attending. I don't think it will, as most people are bigger than that. I'm not a council worker btw, nor is any of my family.
Has the world gone completely mad today? First I foolishly get in to a debate about beer with dinosaur CAMRA members (real ale drinkers), and then I log on to the BBS and find the club being criticised for their first positive marketing move in about ten years! Working for the council you get your salary plus benefits. This is one of the latest benefits. Someone makes a good point above to counter the gym argument from Conan. Does Treadmill runner A spit their dummy out and complain because Treadmill runner B gets their membership at £5 a month cheaper because they're a council worker. Well done BFC. Might be ten games at £18 this season, and a season ticket for that same person next season.
Re: Has the world gone completely mad today? Actually it wasn't CAMRA members you were getting into a debate with, the ones you were arguing with were landlords!
The worst part of this thread is the random posting of nezbfc. If it puts bums on seats then I'm not really fussed.
