We were never playing anywhere near as bad as the league table suggested, and a combination of poor finishing, poor defending and a little bit of back luck saw us slip to the foot of the table. Even at that time we were only about 24 points off the top. I always felt we wouldn't finish anywhere near the bottom 4. But I think I predicted 14th place.

Totally agree , the performances weren't deserving of the results early on and we stood toe to toe with at the time a very good Everton team.

This was a thread about sacking Johnson, why has it been bumped? I stand by everything I said about him and I'm glad he went. Let's see if he sees the season out at Bristol City.

It seems a strange way to try to score a few internet points doesn't it

It is a bit of a strange post to bump. If it had been a post about us being in the fourth division next season I could have understood it but not one in which the point was to sack Johnson as we went bottom of the league.

Goes to show that not sacking the manager was the right move. Well done Patrick.

I think my point was that there was many threads suggesting Patrick Cryne didn't know what he was doing, and many more calling for him to step down, all because we hadn't sacked Lee Johnson.

I firmly believe had we sacked Lee Johnson at the time this particular post was created, we wouldn't have been where we are now.

I'm not 'point scoring' or anything. Jesus wept there's some touchy folk about.

But that wasn't my point. My point was the manager had to go.

I'm firmly of the belief that if Bristol City hadn't come in for him, Johnno would still be here now and we wouldn't be where we are.

You might be right to be fair. However I don't think far too much has changed under Hecky. Although the team spirit seems stronger. I reckon we were right to stick with Lee Johnson, who in turn aided the turnaround.

I think few could have predicted this other than in complete blind faith.

It wasn't Lee Johnson's choice to sign Hammill and to change our system to 4-4-2. He got lucky in terms of Cryne sticking with him, and being forced to change his tactics. We are well rid, and we were lucky to get money out of him.

It's pretty disingenuous to deny Johnson any credit. Hammill himself said yesterday that Heckingbottom didn't change much when he came in. So logic dictates that if Johnson wasn't responsible for the turnaround and 'got lucky' as some say, then Heckingbottom is lucky twice removed.

I wasn't being touchy, I just thought that the post was perhaps the wrong one to bump because the theme of it was anti Lee Johnson. The Cryne out calls were not really given any credence.

What seems to have changed is that you're not bollockng paddy Cryne anymore.
As others on here have said.....patience is key. It's probably one of the most important things in football. Had Paddy and Ben and Maurice not shown patience in their plan we wouldn't be feeling like we all are today.
Thank goodness you're not in charge.

Pretty glad that Johnson left myself. I had little or no confidence in his abilities as a manager. Gems like Hourihane can't play in a midfield two or playing Sam Winnall as a left winger/ attacking midfielder still seem as daft to me now as they did then. I wish Lee every success in the future but I'm happy he isn't here.

The difference in the team between then and now is pretty astonishing.

Cryne took notice of the calls for his head though and says he has an exit strategy, I really dont want him to go and hope he puts whatever plans he has to leave to one side

We were 12th when he jumped ship - eight points off the play off places. How much credit are we giving him?

I agree but the point I'm trying to make is that we as fans should show more patience. If we struggle next year I would hate to think that people start calling for PCs head or BMs head or God forgive Heckys head. These thing take time to build. These are just the foundation stones. We have the right mngt structure, the right plan and the right people in charge. Give them time. Build it and they will come. And if things start to go tits up then stick with the plan. Be patient.
I would hate to see the return of a million and one Conan Troutmans and zaslos cult followers on here who can only see impending doom and are blind beyond what they can see up to the point at the end of their nose.
Also....if there are those out there who want to knock me for bringing out our dead at a time icpf celebration then I would argue that this needs to be said now. Whilst we're all feeling this good we need to keep in touch with the unity and bonding were experiencing at this time. As fans that's the duty we owe the club and those in charge. Come any adversity we need to stay together.
To quote our wonderful manager.......hard work togetherness and commitment.

But we didn't need patience, did we? We wanted a change of manager, and by hook or by crook we got one, and he brought immediate success. End of.

if we struggle next year nobody in their right mind should slag anyone off, whether that be pat cryne or hecky,we have bagged around 6 million for our gallant efforts, whereas the relegated premiership teams get about 100 million...how the **** can we compete with that?...

bumper crowds and the ensuing support is whats needed, heres hoping eh?
