This phenomenon is particularly present currently in ostentatious mask wearing on the socials/having a profile photo with a mask on.
If you mean Kimi (Finnish) then he's said that the reason he won't take a knee is that he has his own mind and doesn't take a knee just because he's been told to do so as it makes it a pointless gesture. He's against racism but feels kneeling just because he's been told to kneel makes no sense. Charles leclerk (from Monaco) is the one who said he won't do it due to its association with people who have commited violence in its name and that what matters is how we act in our day to day lives, not how we act for 10 seconds because Lewis Hamilton wants you to. Kyvat (Russian) didn't do it as it's very political where he is from and kneeling in that manner is something that is only done in certain situations. Carlos Sainz (Spanish) said that he felt he already does enough to combat racism and won't be pressured or forced into doing something. Max Verstappen (Dutch) said it's because everyone has the right to express themselves and show support in a way that suits them, not a way they're told to.
I haven't missed the point, I know that police in America have huge budgets and are in essence more than just police and I know that the money could be better spent. But that doesn't mean that that's the aim of every demonstrator. In fact I know it isn't, quite a lot simply want the police to have less resources, they haven't given any thought to the reallocation of the money, just to reducing the polices money.
yes, the point is that the public want to redirect some funding from the police to other agencies. For example social workers for domestic abuse instead of police, more automated traffic enforcement Etc. The Police (and especially their union) have too much power, even trying to dictate who is a mayor in some cities. We in the UK have also been defunding the police, less on the streets, crimes ref numbers replacing real investigations. The problem is we haven’t replaced what we took away with anything else.
That isn't the objective of the more reactionary protestors though. Maybe the objective of the actual organisation or group behind black lives matter (which shows exactly why the slogan makes no sense for the group) but many individuals just want to destroy the police
Have they been told to or ask if they want to participate in taking a knee. Of course people have their own choice and it appears it’s the latter, that’s ok with me. I believe in the core principles of BLM and support however people want to express it, but I fear it can be used in a divisive and destructive way if some people aren’t careful.
yes, but that’s a different topic. That’s about the extremists. I’m talking about, what some general public mainstream people are asking for.
Oh I know that's the case, I was talking about the protestors, rioters as those who pushed the knee thing and black lives matters slogan. The reason I've been against it since the beginning is exactly this, it's merging and muddying two very different issues
Nobody in their right mind wants to destroy the police. Granted there are some of an anarchist leaning who would like to. They have zero chance of being taken seriously or elected to do so. Those loonies are, however, being held up as a serious threat to society by the hard right who want to see nothing change. Unfortunately their base who see anything left of centre as "commies" gobble it all up.
