Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham have very ageing squads. Huddersfield Stoke Birmingham Millwall QPR I dont think you could pay me to watch em.
I think we’d be on a hiding to nothing most weeks tbh. That’s not to say I don’t want us to play at the highest level possible, but I just don’t think we’d be very competitive. We get bullied in this league and the Championship is a proper mesters league. The players/squad we have are way off Championship level and the board won’t invest the kind of money required to acquire the quality of players we’d need. It’d be like enduring and reliving performances under Schopp/Asbaghi all over again. As previously mentioned, the gulf between L1 and the Champ gets greater year on year. It could be said it’s as good, if not better than a lot of other top leagues in Europe barring the obvious. We are sadly no where near that level IMHO.
I always want us to try our best to go up (to the Championship of course), that goes without saying. Even though it also worries the hell out of me how badly we might do back there. But somehow we've got to put that out of our minds, we can not and should not just simply accept second or third best, by staying in Lg One like we are right now.
If we went up we desperately need some height, strength & pace in the side. We’re lacking it at league one level but it would stand out more at championship level.
I understand not wanting to lose every week but that feeling in 2009 when we won at Plymouth or getting the 2-2 at Huddersfield one year and beating promotion chasing Brentford during lockdown are better than any feelings I've had while we're in league one.. But that's just me. Our Semi final FA cup year is harder to replicate whilst in League One also.
This current board would give the Conservatives under David Cameron a run for their money in terms of getting people to believe in austerity. The whole point of football, unless I'm missing something, is to win. When you win, ultimately, you'll likely get promotion. Promotion is ALWAYS a good thing. We're being drip-fed this idea that we should "fear" going up, fear the unknown, fear even attempting to better our lot. What if it goes wrong? What if we can't sign players? What if we lose every week? Stop being such babies! It's this defeatist mindset which has infected our whole Club from the top down! It's why Oakwell is quieter than a library. I'm no lover of Collins, I genuinely think he's totally out of his depth, that being said, he's the one in charge and he and the lads need our support for the last push. What does everyone want to do? Keep umming and ahhing about what ifs? Keep on moaning about "the finances"? Forget all that, that's for them upstairs to sort. Just back the lads and enjoy watching the Reds!
Wednesday went up playing hoofball to Smith and Gregory. The team that got them promoted was full of players with no sell on value and largely old men.In my opinion that’s why they’ve struggled and they didn’t invest in championship quality when they got promoted.
This. First thing i said when Windarse scored was "this lot are going to be whipping boys". I was right up until they had that freak run of form. I knew they'd lose a few of their 35 year old starters from last season, and as for relying solely on Bannan... he's absolute dogger. Luckily for them there's about 3 teams above them who have no fight in them at all. And Rotherham should never be allowed in the Championship again after this season's effort
I would have fancied Duffs team to finish mid table championship with an addition or two. Sadly it wasn’t to be. I know stats suggest otherwise but this seasons team seems quite a bit short of last seasons.
