He's an attacking player who hardly scores a goal. He's underachieved in major tournaments for his country. Since Sir Alex has gone their starts to a season points wise have got worse with three consecutive managers who all saw him as a star player. All this whilst on over one million pound a month.

I'd say for how little he does he's done very well money wise.

Just about the only thing of worth he's done all season. He'll be shoved out of utd next summer at the latest. I even think they'd let him go on a free if they could get rid of him without having to pay his contract up.

I don't get why you will enthuse over a premier league player who a lot of people regard to be vastly over-rated yet you take any opportunity to slag off our own players.

Rooney has done almost nothing of note for years yet when he does one thing that makes you drool you're on here posting your undying love for him yet we have a player who has played consistently well all season and is statistically the best player in the league but all you do is slag him off.

You might go to games but you really are a **** fan.

Haha. Unbelievable. If he's not done nothing of note for years then what have the players you won't have a bad word said about them.

Please. Quick to criticise a top top player but not one that can't pass the ball 10 yards or control a ball when its played up to him.

Got the team that I support promoted, won the JPT, and played some fantastic football and all for a fraction of what Rooney gets paid.

A cup and promotion? Different level, but all relative.

When Rooney plays his best he's world class but that's rare these days

Rooney has been average for years. Living off his early promise that never developed. A good but not great player. Didn't have the determination or quality that his colleague at the time Ronaldo the best in the world. Internationally after his first tournament never developed beyond being a flat track bully in qualifying.

Would have to disagree. England's all time top scorer, soon to be man utd's. Averages nearly a goal every other game, despite playing large chunks of his career in midfield and on the wing. Won the premier league 5 times and also the champions league. Agree he hasn't done much at major tournaments but which England player has in the last 20 years? Should be considered one of the greats. Agree he'll never reach the heights of Ronaldo or Messi but not many can match the career he has had. Why England fans love to slate Rooney is beyond me.

I don't slate Rooney. Just don't buy into the hype. He's been a good not great international player. He's been important to Man U without ever really dominating like say Cantona. His problem has been over the years the media have portrayed him as something he is not demonstrably world class that doesn't mean that at his peak he wasn't a good international level player just that he couldn't live up to their expectations because he wasn't good enough. His goal scoring record for England if you took away the goals against tier 2/3 opposition is not great. A flat track bully smashing them in against Luxemborg failing against Germany. In terms of England forwards I'd put him in the tier below someone like Lineker. Good. Quality on his day but ultimately a disappointment.

Wasn't aiming that statement about slating Rooney directly at you. More just in general. Accept he's not been great on the international stage, but still some achievement to break the record regardless of the opposition. To say he's been a disappointment seems a tad over the top to me. To achieve what he has done is far from disappointing - can't think of many players who have had more successful careers.
