he'll be signed up by a pie making company to appear in their t.v. and other adverts and he'll make a tidy bit of money out of it -- watch this space!
From Stoke newspaper last month. Peter Crouch is 6/4 to score his 100thPremier League goal with a header, 3/1 to celebrate it with a robot dance and 100/30 to get it against Manchester United. Betway are offering odds on how and when he will bag his next – and how he will mark it.
The fact is that the sun are more to blame than anyone in all this. Their betting arm jumped all over the game, and sponsored the Sutton club.the fact that sun bets were the only bookmakers to offer the pie eating bet, makes the whole episode suspicious. And they took a hit of over £10k for that bet. Some inside information me thinks.
That's naive. What you have to ask is why bets were being taken on a reserve goalie being filmed eating while on the bench. Where did that come from? Why did this particular keeper attract such bets and what role did he play in it? If it turns out he had a part in instigating the bets he's in trouble. Even if not he ate a pie while sat on the bench knowing there were bets on him doing so. He resigned by the way which is an admission that he did something wrong.
Bloody hell its not that difficult to understand is it? It's called cheap publicity for Sun bet and probably the pie/pasty company. The only other aspect is that the goalie has embarrassed his mates and his club and therefore has resigned. All his own decisions. Got his five minutes of fame, seat on morning tv and maybe a place in the next celebrity big brother.
Him resigning is neither proof nor an admission of guilt, he may well have just realised that the whole thing reflected badly and was trying to limit the damage to the club. You're asking me to consider this question or that but I'll ask you again: what part of that rule you quoted did he actually break and where is your evidence of that? "If it turns out he had a part in instigating the bets..." then fair enough but I'm not aware of any evidence of such instigation. Are you? If some comes up then sure, throw the book at him, but until then he's innocent until proven guilty and the burden of proof is on his accusers, including yourself. This is someone's career and reputation we're talking about so speculation and hearsay simply won't do.
How many on here have made a poor joke and said or posted something they thought would be funny and then regretted it after they thought about it? I can't see how the guy has done anything wrong, stupid maybe but no more. It was a publicised bet not something done on the QT, he doesn't seem to have been accused of making money from it ( unless I missed that bit), he hasn't hurt anybody I would have thought a genuine grovelling apology and maybe an internal punishment would have been enough.
His mates were betting on it he knew about it and ate the pie to let em win there's no defending him.
He's an idiot for getting involved with any form of betting whilst he's a player and also taking the limelight from his more deserving team mates. He also made the whole of non-league look amatuerish in front of a massive audience. It's probably harsh that he's left the club over it but it sounds like the feeling within Sutton United is very strong towards his actions so it possibly left his position untenable. It's a massive shame all round that Sutton's achievements are now tarnished and that a seemingly good man has had to leave the club. Hopefully when the dust has settled and the emotion has dampened down he can go back to the club. I'm sure he's kicking himself now.
Bang on. It's because the bookies have had to pay out that they've thrown their teddy out the pram. If he hadn't eaten the pie they wouldnt have been crying about taking punters money. They do not like it when they lose, which is why anyone who manages to tip the odds in their favour or rinse them, is either banned from betting with them or as is the case here, dragged over hot coals. Answer: Don't offer odds on such daft ***** in the first place.
Yeah - I went on a training course with the marketing guy from Pukka Pies. They'll be all over this..
Yeah - like them bent b@stards scoring goals. Clearly breaking the betting rules allowing people to win money on goals being scored.
As soon as the guy learned about the bet being offered he's in a lose-lose situation. Don't eat the pie? You're consciously affecting the outcome, do it eat and you're damned as well.
Bookies take bets on whether footballer scores a goal during game. Footballer scores a goal during game knowing bets are being taken on this. I mean, come on. Those who argue the player was 100% in control of the pie outcome consider this. The caterers might have been as inept as they are at Oakwell and could have sold out 10 minutes before kick off. He might have also had to come on as substitute before getting his mits on said pie.
