Well that’s your choice. But it’s funny that once he went, a huge switcheroo of opinion followed that echoed it was abysmal to watch.
we played football, just in our opponent’s half , not on edge of our own box. We played football without allowing opponents to get 11 men behind ball
Not as often as kicking it directly into touch for no reason. But anyway, that’s all gone. Surely we should all be hoping we bloody the blunts noses, no?
Despite the fact that he was one of our most successful managers ever? What an odd take. It's never going to happen but I'd honestly drive Schopp back to Austria on a push iron if it meant we could get Big Val back.
I loved watching Valerien Ismael's Barnsley last season. Winning matches, players giving everything for the cause, comfortably making the Play Offs despite only getting four points out of twenty one at the start. But then, I'm not a proper fan & have no values.
This. His tactic was go get the ball into the opponents half. By any means. Press like ****, or win it and then play. If we happened to have the ball drop to us, then play. You didn't get anyone in the opponents half still smashing it willy nilly Opposition can't score when they have backs to the wall for most of the game. Worked.....
I'm being a little pedantic I grant you. I just think saying we didn't play football is a but snobbish. It's like those people who like real ale (fine) but then talk down at anyone having a pint of John's. We did pay football last season, even smashing the ball into touch to gain yards on the pitch so we could apply the press. It may not have been pleasing viewing, and if we looked back you would find myself being critical of the style at times but it was still football. Of course hope we put in a performance and get a win.
You’re being silly. We just have a different opinion. There’s no need to be so melodramatic about it.
Same. A clear plan, which maximised the talent he he had available to him. Proper management: the players did not believe they were inferior to anyone, and went out to try to win every game. They must have adored playing for him.
I agree. Now you know how I felt last season, listening to persistent criticism of a bloke who did an outstanding job for us last season.
But isn’t it the same where people place value on other aspects of something, just because they like that. That’s not snobbish, it’s just preference. I was pleased we did well last season, but I enjoyed so little of it. I tried, Christ I did. But there’s only so many times you can give me lamb as a Sunday roast before I chunder. I get Schopp is largely universally disliked, but he’s had such a raw deal with so many things. He’s not doing a great job either, but personally I think it’s a brave thing to try and pass the ball as opposed to just getting rid. But I’m sure the majority will get what they want very soon, though I’m not sure it will make up for the carnage of the summer and the horrendous injury list we’re experiencing.
Now it all becomes clear ;-) Anyway my bed calls mister, sweet dreams and fingers crossed for better days.
