"just a few hundred cyber warriers with a boat load of angst" Out of interest, why do these few hundred people keep buying 10,000 tickets?
It was £14 if the ticket was bought in advance... ... it's now over £20.... inflation is 2.5 to 3 %? I'm lucky, I can afford a season ticket, but the cost of game has made me think 'bugger that' in repect of away matches where it's over £20 just to get in. Family of four can go to the pictures for around £20.
Kids St's But a 5 year old has as much financial dependency on his parents as a 15 year old. They should all be £50.</p> We're getting back to the early 90's sithi where I remember getting pillocked for going and watching Barnsley by tossers that were then clamouring for a season ticket when Giggsy and co were the opponents. </p> You're right what you say but the club could work harder off the field to try and drum up support.</p> Failing that, we have to wait until we're top two.....</p>
Bring in the student season tickets or under 21s. Because I'll have to pay adult price next season. :'(
7 thousand loyal fans and 3 thousand floaters that come if they get to sneak in for a quid or on someone elses ticket, if there's no sale on at TK Maxx or if Man U or Liverpool arent on telly. thats the point, we're over represented on the internet and under represented in the stands. maybe the club should do a swap your pc for a season ticket deal.
or acknowledge that every club in the championship might have a different catchment and a very different local economy and fan base. That would be a better start.
No, just market the club. Average gate last season was 12,733. Should the club not be asking what has changed since then that could lead to a drop in attendance? Maybe it's the fact that we now have less coverage or advertising on local radio than last year? Maybe that is what needs addressing?
Even Donny have 'destination championship' advertisement on radio. Even though we all know thats fecking daft.
Yes, dead bloody right... ... get the product out there, get any students in the area by offering ST at say £100, make people want to come, On mi shed won't bring em flocking in will it ?. You can't just 'put on a match' and hope the fans will turn up and cough up !</p> I'm getting pissed off with Football in general, it's far far too expensive and if they lose me and people like me then they're fecked. </p>
We haven't played the Wendies yet.. & we were lucky last season in that we played some of the clubs with large potential support at the 'business' end of the season...eg Derby Brum and Leicester. They all packed the end, whereas if we'd played them in say November it's likely they wouldn't have brought half as many.
RE: No, just market the club. More like we haven't had any big away followings just yet, like Sunderland, Birmingham, Derby and Washday.
They've marketed the arse out of the Rovers and look where its got them. losing 20 grand a week. thats just the point, Barnsley and Doncaster economies are very similar, apart from there's more new businesses and investment going on in Doncaster. its the folk thats the problem. they've taken their white finger money and given the local football club the middle finger.
The pay on the gate price doesn't feel right. It's like paying £10 for fish and chips at the local chippy or £5 a pint inyour local. Money's getting tight. Maybe £14/15.
RE: The pay on the gate price doesn't feel right. mortgage rises... some one with a £50k mortgage is £500 worse off than last year. That's the cost of match day attendence
RE: They've marketed the arse out of the Rovers And some folk used their brains and supported another club. Like me.
Fair point but in that case then isn't comparing our attendances so far to other sides also unfair? We haven't played the same teams as the others. Preston north end for example have played both wednesday and Norwich at home so far which will surely increase their average attendances. QPR have played Watford, ipswich, norwich, southampton etc. It is only after all 46 games have taken place that you can compare attendances between clubs, at the moment all you can do is compare with your own attendance in previous seasons
Of the teams in the Championship, only 9 are not based in a major City, andalmost all are at the bottom of the attendance rankings (Ipswich and Watford) being exceptions</p> <table class="league" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0"><tbody><tr class="box"><td class="norm">18</td><td class="norm">Burnley (12)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">73920</td><td class="norm" align="right">16843</td><td class="norm" align="right">12320</td><td class="norm" align="right">22546</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">54.6%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">19</td><td class="norm">Plymouth Argyle (7)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">72366</td><td class="norm" align="right">13638</td><td class="norm" align="right">12061</td><td class="norm" align="right">20922</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">57.6%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">20</td><td class="norm">Preston North End (18)</td><td class="norm" align="right">7</td><td class="norm" align="right">82891</td><td class="norm" align="right">13408</td><td class="norm" align="right">11842</td><td class="norm" align="right">20600</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">57.4%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">21</td><td class="norm">Barnsley (13)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">65034</td><td class="norm" align="right">12616</td><td class="norm" align="right">10839</td><td class="norm" align="right">23186</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">46.7%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">22</td><td class="norm">Blackpool (20)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">52177</td><td class="norm" align="right">9512</td><td class="norm" align="right">8696</td><td class="norm" align="right">8900</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">97.7%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">23</td><td class="norm">Scnuthorpe United (9)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">43358</td><td class="norm" align="right">8801</td><td class="norm" align="right">7226</td><td class="norm" align="right">9183</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">78.6%</td></tr><tr class="box"><td class="norm">24</td><td class="norm">Colchester United (16)</td><td class="norm" align="right">6</td><td class="norm" align="right">31612</td><td class="norm" align="right">5860</td><td class="norm" align="right">5269</td><td class="norm" align="right">7556</td><td></td><td class="norm" align="right">69.7%</td></tr></tbody></table></p> We are in the middle of that group, which is reasonable for a town the size of Banrsley, surrounded by some fairly major cities</p>
