I think you're right but I thought it was about '89. I'm not sure but I think it was a game against Sheff Utd. I remember setting off with my Dad and having to turn around due it being called off due to strong winds.
1974 is right. Vicious gales and I was nearly killed by a flying greenhouse - no joke. Sheds were blown out of gardens, tiles flying about and the glass panels in one of the stands at Oakwell were blown out. Not safe to play football.
It could have been the 89-90 season (I started at Sheff Poly then). Its very vague though. It *might* have been the day around then that I saw tiles fall off a roof and be blown into the front window in Thurnscoe on the way to the station, then spent about an hour watching the corrugated roof come off one of the buildings nearby.
Right now I would take that option if the weather went all biblical. Jack Ross has just confirmed we lost 4 first team players to various injuries playing Wycombe on Saturday. I know you have your own issues at the moment but you couldn't be playing us at a better time after we were kicked all over the pitch on Saturday.
I once remember heavy winds causing the North Stand roof to sway during a match against Port Vale. Their fans had to be housed in the West Stand upper and lower tiers. Think it might have been the 2003/4 season.
I had a sneaky feeling about Wycombe on Saturday. We lost 1-0 there after not turning up. It was a low point because they weren't very good, but we learned from it, and don't think we've lost in the league since. Their whole game was based on spoiling and hitting on the break. No intention of going toe to toe. Am I right in thinking you have 8 games now in April to play?
could be a dead rubber game tho by the time we play it and us promoted already, sunderland already av 2 to fit in,in april
It's effective and we made the mistake of going behind which really gave then something to hold on to. You'd like to think a player getting kicked in the head when you've already made 3 subs is accidental but I have my doubts. 8 games in April, yes I didn't realise it myself until I checked, that's a big ask for our squad like.
Yeah Grigg didn't have a sniff on Saturday and is due a league goal having only scored a penalty in the league. Id expect Baldwin to come in for Flanagan, Matthews to play at left back which is out of position but we don't have many other options. Power or Gooch will come in for Honeyman, Power for me as he knows Grigg's game. Out of all those Flanagan is the biggest miss for me.
I'm travelling up with Baldwin's mum and dad tomorrow. There'll be some jolly banter in the car no doubt.
Enjoy the trip mate, I like Jack and think he was unlucky to be dropped. He's a good centre half and I think is more suited to playing against footballing strikers as opposed to the physical strikers that you get in this league.
