A bad winner? What did Scotland win? The 'just a bit better than North Macedonia' trophy? After scooping that prize, they'll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight.
You're not coming across as a bit of banter, it's more like bitterness at the fact we did well again. You've had your cup final in the group stage when your players left it all on rhe pitch. Such a shame they can't put as much effort into every game, isn't that cheating their fans. The future is bright, the future is England.
"Banter" aside why do you support Barnsley if you dislike England so much? I'm not talking about the sports teams either lol.
Some of the replies to this!! England fans have been unbearable* the last 3 weeks, I’ll be honest I find some of the crying the last 24 hours quite amusing. * more on Twitter than the BBS to be fair.
I’ve always liked your posts Ian but this thread does you no favours at all. Just comes across a bit bitter and rather silly. You’ll find very few Barnsley fans who’d have been disappointed to see Scotland do better than they did. I wish all the home nations well other than when we play them, I’d have liked to see Scotland and Wales do well. Yet as a proud Scot (exactly as you should be), you and plenty more of your countrymen are apparently more interested in England not winning the tournament than anything Scotland have achieved (or failed to) - when your own side were playing in their first major tournament finals in nearly a quarter of a century and haven’t so much as got out of a group in a euros or a World Cup, ever. It just seems a bit rich, just like Roy Keane having a go at senior England players for leaving a kid to take a penalty, perhaps forgetting when he took off in a huff and left the less experienced Ireland players to play a whole bloody tournament without him in 2002, never mind take a penalty.
I find it quite amusing that it appears that many Scottish football fans are revelling in England"s failure to beat Italy & shows their huge dislike for our football , but for years all they have wanted is for their top teams to compete in the English leagues , smacks of hypocrisy to say the least.
I’m sure Ian doesn’t need little old me fighting his corner but let’s be fair here. Every major tournament Scotland (and Wales) have weeks of the London media / broadcasters shoving England down their throats. They can’t even watch their own team on the telly without the half time break being spent interviewing someone in the England camp. It must get right royally on their tits quite frankly. Then there’s what I call the “In-ger-lund brigade”. I can’t stand them, and I’m English! The sheer arrogance of many fans is beyond belief, especially all this “it’s coming home” nonsense, which completely misses the point of the original song may I add. The same people crying about a bit of grief the last couple of days are the ones who mocked them the other week for getting a draw at Wembley. I would say comparing populations / resources etc. that was a sensational result for the Scots and deserving of celebration. Most will have been realistic enough to know they were never winning the thing, so surely a result against a perceived ‘big team’ / local rival is the next best thing? But many had a dig, which is fine if you’re willing to take some back when it doesn’t go you’re way. I can’t be bothered to go back and look but I bet Ian took plenty on here when Scotland got eliminated, and although I don’t know the guy he strikes me as being someone who will have taken it on the chin, gone with it, gave a bit back, and had a laugh. Other countries fans = bitter, their cup final etc. England fans = just bantz innit? Get a grip.
