4 to 5 inch in Worsbrough, our dog loved it too mate.....she’s only 2 and don’t think she ever so much ha
Came to Madeira to escape winter for a week but that’s backfired a bit today. Ended up with a 10 hour flight home delay due to snowbound Leeds Bradford airport. Hope the roads are clear at about 3am for the drive home
Absolutely fuming!! Email from work last night saying school was open and any update would be given by 6:30am at latest. Kept checking email this morning, nothing by half six so set off on the hour journey. Got there at half seven and saw an email from 7:15am that we’re closed!! Had to keep stopping and telling kids walking in that we’re shut, I hope their parents are still at home and not already gone to work!
Grit only works for light dustings of snow. It melts into the water to lower the freezing point of the solution - so works well with ice - but when snow comes fast (like over the weekend), grit alone won't do much of anything.
Here in Rotherham it’s melting quite nicely. Hopefully it’s all shifted before the big freeze kicks in and turns owt left into a skating rink.
Salt dissolves in ice and lowers it's melting point theoretically to -21C but that would require a massive amount - the more snow there is the more salt is needed. Realistically this means any more than an inch and salt is not going to be effective. The grit mixed with the salt will, however, slightly improve the grip of motor vehicles. In short, if you have to drive take it slowly particularly when steering round bends and corners and allow for massively increased stopping distances.
We were one of only a handful of schools open today, I felt certain we would have shut. Open did seem to be the right decision based on the roads but I’m glad I didn’t have to walk along the pavements. Forecast -11 tomorrow evening then -8 the one after should be fun! Don’t think I’ve known it that cold in my lifetime.
Black Ice instead of frost and remnants of snow on our driveway. Can't get to the bottom of the path. No exaggeration. What will it need to get rid of it. Got work in morning mate.
Bingley froze very quickly tonight and it's treacherous. It did seem to be thawing a little then we had a fresh dumping at 2.30 ish then temperatures suddenly plummeted and it turned into a skating rink. Couldn't get out of the estate (Gilstead / Eldwick) so had to take car home then walk to meet Mrs Mac on Primrose Lane / Wagon Lane. Good job really as cars couldn't get up. Since been gritted I believe, but FGS stay safe if you're doing the trip tomorrow. Long time since I've felt it this cold up here.
