It's probably about

the going rate for a small business website. I've seen projects where its cost the client £1000s per page - but that's the nature of IT.

You will be able to get it done much cheaper - I know some Indians who'd probably do it for £50. You could host a site like that for £20-30 a year.

If the companies designs are good then it might be worth paying this much. Really depends on the quality. That example you showed looked poor IMHO though.

It would be fine if there was an element of design to it, but that sites clearly been knocked up with a template and you can get the same thing for about £100 easily.

Wasn't mr Hartog just pointing to another glasses shop

One that he quite liked, rather than a web site that had been done by the firm in question?

either way that site was created using a basic template and you can get similar things done for about £100 or less.

The website I pointed to is similar to the one that the co. wants to do for me. That other opticians is one of their clients.

If they get away with building summat like that, at them prices, and run a business on it then I am starting my own company. I could knock summat better up in 30 minutes.

    1/2 hour * £400 = £800/hour
    working part time, 4 hours*£800 = £3200 day.
3 days a week, dont want to over do it, 3*3200=£9600
    working half a year, 26*£3200 = £249600 per year.

And I only have to build 624 websites a year.

Thats the business plan sorted, Id better hand my notice in and Im in the money.

    seriously

As you may have gathered, does seem a pretty poor site for that sort of money. Im not sure what normal costs are for small static sites, we charge owt up to £750 day for top notch application development. But you get a lot more for your money than that. And I reckon even the poorest developer could build that in 1/2 a day.

Anyway, if people on here are offering their help, Id be tempted to go with that. Then get some cheap hosting, 1and1 are ok and cheapish. If you are struggling drop me a pm and will try to help.

I know it sounds a lot, but you've got to remember that that's before tax.
