It's a shame this isn't getting the visibility and credit it deserves. Understandable with what is going on, but what amazing news. For years supporters have suggested/wanted/craved having people who 'get' the football club involved in shaping the culture, the mentality, and progressing us at all levels. We've now got Disco, Hassell, Eaden and Colgan. It's a marked improvement from where we were 6-9 months ago with question marks over the coaching setup. Add Duff in to the mix, who feels like the best appointment we could have made at the time, and it feels like we're starting to fix certain areas. Long process and more bumps to overcome, but I absolutely love this. EDIT - lots of love on Facebook which is great to see.
I’d forgotten just how unbelievably good we were until I watched that again. Confidence oozes from every touch.
I hope Michael Duff is so successful that he stays for 2 or 3 years at least but I get the feeling we’re building a management structure to last a long time. No need to look overseas for untried unknowns. The next manager will be promoted from within, and maybe the one after that as well.
Eaden if I remember was a reliable wing back. Up to that point we'd never played with wing backs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
ps....let me be the first to start the moaning......it's bloody pathetic; they both should have been appointed months ago. I blame Khaled.
Both Mark Robinson & Owen Archdeacon played wing back before Nicky Eaden. As were Brian McCord & Glynn Snodin.
Certainly out of the blue that announcement. I thought Nicky was a lot better than some thought. . An unsung hero so to speak. Very good playing careers and several coaching roles should hold em both in good stead.
Great to see Nicky back. An absolutely top player who was crucial to our promotion season. No one could cross a ball as well. He had such a lot of quality, as did Lids, Moses, Watson, et al from the same batch of youngsters. What a side that was with its mix of brilliant home grown talent and good senior pros.
That guy, who looks like he's playing inside left, who carries the ball like an international, and plays that beautiful defence splitting pass, that's our left wing back. And that other guy, ghosting through the middle of their defence and coolly slotting home like he's Thierry Henry, that's our right wing back. Because that's how good we were. You could put two men on each of Hendrie and Redfearn and Wilkinson and Marcelle and Bullock, but it wouldn't work because our wing backs would murder you on their own.
Yeah welcome back Jeremiah kid lol. It really does bring back memories of what a talented team we had in that '96 season.
There was one poster, the son of a certain TT, who used to absolutely hate Nicky Eaden. Couldn’t be persuaded otherwise.
