Deserve their plaudits, best footballing team in division and hopefully they will go up as champions...congratulations leeds.
They will have to spend Phillip's is premiership class and there manager is aswell he took the same team as hecky had and got them firing. But bamford isnt good enough and Hernandez is 35 now but they have done it and fair play.
When I was a kid Leeds v Man U was a huge game. Man U were the Massives who had won not much for years. They were the ones who started the "We all hate Leeds & Leeds & Leeds etc" chants and the animosity was terrible with pitched battles on and off the field. From the Revie years to Ridsdale they were huge rivals so I'd say that Man U are the team most Leeds fans look forward to beating. I have several Leeds supporting mates who always want Barnsley to do well apart from when we play them. I don't have a problem with teams being bigger than us and never really saw Leeds as a rival. We've hardly played them in the years I've been watching Barnsley and the two Sheffield teams, Donny and Rotherham were always my local rivals.
Not cos it,s Leeds but I fear for them with with that side need to spend a lot of dosh probably only Phillips good enough for top league.
Goes as far back as the War of the Roses. Another factor was the creation of the Manchester Ship Canal which apparently diverted a lot of trade away from Leeds to Manchester and in more recent times, because of the rivalry between the two Clubs on the football field where for some reason, Leeds fans have resented the success Ferguson brought to Old Trafford.
That’s a CRAZY CRAZY comment !!! A disastrous season for Barnsley. Not only relegated - but a business rival moves into the Premier. Football support again draining away up the M1 to watch top flight football - while our own town club languishes in the 3rd tier. Young football supporters from Barnsley introduced to football for the first time at Elland Road. That’s football fans from Barnsley lost to Leeds United forever. Plus of course - £££millions pumped into the city of Leeds due to their promotion. No money coming to Barnsley. How can anyone from Barnsley celebrate or congratulate that achievement FFS !?!?!
They’ll be ok in the premier league - as long as they get a better centre forward than Bamford. If he’s the fulcrum of their attack you might see some stats like ours for this season for Leeds next year! In all seriousness I think they’ll be ok. I’m non-plussed about their promotion btw - I’m not gutted they’ve gone up as a local rival and I’m not pleased they’ve gone up as a Yorkshire club with friends (and family) as supporters. I’m not remotely arsed to be honest. I’m more bothered that we will be a league below rotherham and Wycombe next season than I am being two below Leeds and sheff Utd.
Wow! Being called crazy by Nudger - that's like a badge of honour! To be honest Nudge, I doubt if you'd get in to Elland Road next season unless you already have a season ticket. But let's be reight, they're going to have a much more interesting time of it than we will in League One - even if we beat that league up like a flat-track bully. Football is about entertainment, not boring balance sheets.
I always kind of liked the idea - well, more of a fantasy, really - that one day the top tier would be full of clubs from Yorkshire. I still think it would be great, but I'm much less keen on Sheff Utd and Leeds getting there before us. I worked with a bunch of Leeds fans for many years. Nicer people you couldn't have wished to meet. So for them, I'll say well done Leeds. I don't watch much football, other than Barnsley, so my view of Leeds is somewhat skewed, but they failed to impress me in both our meetings this season. They scored three times, but we gift-wrapped the goals for them. They kept two clean sheets, but that was down to our weak attack rather than their defence. I didn't see any Premier League quality on show and I think their fans' exuberance could be short-lived. One thing they were good at was cheating, though, so on that side of things, they'll fit right in. I'll finish with a question. Does anyone know if they've breached FFP?
I went to a business yesterday and the lads were telling me they are allowed nothing red in the workshop, because the boss is a Leeds fan and hates Man U!!! Unbelievable
According to figures posted by RR they lost £12 million in last accounts, based on that they would be just under the threshold(if that was average over 3 years).
