I think that Mowatt is currently easily our best midfielder and that he should play every game, if he continues to be that. If Mowatt leaves at the end of the season, we have a better chance of signing a good replacement, if we are in the top half of the division, as we would obviously look a more attractive option to other players. Furthermore, if we do happen to finish in the top half, this might persuade Mowatt that he should stay at Oakwell, which a lot of us would like to see happen.

I have to say the only way I see Mowatt being here next season is if we offer to pay him more than anyone else offers. Again I don't blame him. If I were offered more money elsewhere I'd take the guarantee rather than accept less money to stay here with the chance of getting to the Prem with us especially as he's getting to an age where he needs to be maximising earnings.

Depends how much more they offer. What sort of clauses are in, in case of relegation, how long a contract etc... Also he might have an idea of how much of a pay rise he wants to uproot to a club that isn't particularly local.

Yeah, it's all ifs and buts. The bottom line for me is he's getting to an age where he has to look at jam today rather than jam tomorrow.

More to life than Jam though. And he needs to decide how much it will take for him to uproot and risk a reduced role in the team. He's only 25, the contract after next would be his most lucrative if all goes well.

We’re blessed and cursed by the quality of life/ housing costs based in Donny / Barnsley.

Brentford might pay lots more, but if that lands him in a similar house 200 miles from his parents and in-laws and support for a young family...

The club hold the cards on this; they know who he is, what he’s worth in wages and how much he wants. From a risk management perspective they’re in a strong position.
