Well I for one, am extremely disappointed with this Radio Sheffield business

    same here

it's funny how when you think your faith in somebody hits rock bottom they always manage to make it drop even lower

Yes. That is what we are doing.

Don't you think you're initial comment was a bit over the top?

I always thought you were a *****. The above just confirms it.

Actually yes you're right, it probably was a bit over the top. I should have specified that I only mean faith in certain areas rather than in general (if that makes sense), in some areas I do actually have complete faith.

im not sure, on one hand i think we'd all agree that radio sheffield are biased and could do a better job, but on the other hand they have the infrasturucture for BFC to be promoted further afield... i think babyJWBL suggested yesterday that Dearne FM or oakwell AM, or whoever, should invest in better technology so the signal reaches further... id completel agree with that.

on the cash side of things, someone migth correct me bust from what ive read from BBC and BFC, BFC say they are being paid 3.5 times less than the sheffield clubs in the same division, BBC say, well proporitonally, its the same, cos we're covering fewer games of BFC... but if thats right, how many BFC games will be covered?

using round numbers for sake of ease, say a team play 50 games (including cups per year), and say radio sheffield cover 75% of the sheffield teams' games (im guessing here), so thats 38ish games. Divide that by 3.5, (for the proportionally smaller number justifying the lesser payment to BFC), that equals, 11 games or thereabouts. factor in that radio sheff would no doubt cover the local derbys between sheff clubs and bfc (that there would be a 75% chance that those games would be covered anyway due to the radio sheff bias towards sheff clubs), then that leaves only 6 'indepednat' barnsley FC games commentated upon..... thats hardly good coverage.

so, although radio sheff have far better infrastructure, and id guess jounralistic pedigree, if we want to listent o game, radio sheff is far from attractive. however, if a combination of oakwell AM (with boosted signal????? please!), Dearne FM for interviews etc (on internet as well??? please!) and, of course, premium TV at 50odd pence per week, its not an ideal situation, but its a start.

also, someone mentioend a free weekly podcast, whoeevr it was, i reckon thats a crackign idea, would help to show the fans that this isnt about money.

sorry its so long everyone, and i know its simplistic, but just working the sums as i went there, im still ocnfused.

    fans further afield....

reception was terrible in west yorks and is pretty non-existent in North Yorkshire so I'd imagine those who couldn't get to hear the sheer majesticness of Radio Sheffield won't notice any difference

    RE: fans further afield....

No local radio station can be expected to provide a service extending to unreasonable boundaries.

But we should be entitled to a proper service within the designated transmission area, and not end up being squeezed out because of what seems to be a hard to understand disagreement. There are many people who cannot get to matches, including elderley and immobile folk whowould lose a much appreciated service. The situation is ridiculous, and it serves nobody adequately, choose where your opinions lie.

Does ANYBODY outside the two main players in all this know what is going on? Has anybody yet managed to "bottom" the issue causing the problem, which appears to have two different versions, depending on where you are from?

Gordons completely misjudged this one - Total ****-up

Putting an effective blackouton the club is madness. We are on RadioSheffield every day during the football station whether its an injury update, player interview, fans rant, commentary, match updateetc. All that advertising for nowt. And more than that we are seen as part of the South Yorkshire footballing community, fans pillock each other and its good fun on the whole. Theres a danger of becoming isolated in my opinion if the club looks inward like I think it is doing. Preaching to the converted usually ends up with empty pews.I don't know whether the die is cast and the club can't back out of its principalled stance re contracts already signed but I'd rather they accept the offer begrudgingly. And then ask Radio Sheffield to be open and transparent and publish what they have offered to every club (it's public money after all). That would put the ball in their court then.

    NOt sure to be honest

THe club have a point as radio sheffield have ridden rough shod over other teams compared to the 'big two' and barnsley seems to have been shoved to the bottom of the pile as regards to coverage .
However, Jokewell FM is not something to replace it with as you struggle to get coverage in barnsley nevermind north derbyshite
