I learnt the true definition of dual carriageway right off here.

None other than supertyke. When explaining when the national speed limit can be either 60 or 70 dependant on dual carriageway or not.

At that point I'd always stuck to 60 not realising I could actually do 70 lol

Unfortunately most tailgaters are passive not intentional .
You can imagine when a passive tailgater finds this out .
Reasons why multiple pile ups on motorways.
    Cause , driver error.

If someone is tailgating you then speed is not the most important consideration in what action to take - time to react is more important.

So if someone is tailgating, the first thing to do is considerably increase the distance between you and what's in front, probably by slowing down initially to.let them get further away, because if they do something unexpected, you need the time to react very gradually so the nutter behind can do the same, else the nutter behind is going to rear end you because they have no time to react.

People do it because the chances of being caught and punished for it are slim to none. If the Police are never going to have the manpower to be present in large numbers on the roads so the average person is aware there is a chance of being caught, then I would love for the govt to introduce a fleet of unmarked civvy drivers just driving around for a living with camera tech catching people who drive badly, for the ticket to be sent out in the post. There are specific offences that they could capture and tailgating is one. The tech exists. I am sure they have such unmarked cars in France but I think they only catch speeding.

If such a role existed, I'd apply. Be a great semi retirement job.

You would be surprised, their getting prosecuted from the cameras.
Course for them to avoid the points.
Not nice courses to be in.
    Pretty angry drivers.

Also without a doubt ,West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester police are prosecuting from drivers dash cam evidence.
There is a Web site to upload video evidence of bad driving behaviour and they act on the evidence uploaded.

Beat me to it. I've seen examples of prosecutions from dashcam footage. I wish I'd had one a few weeks ago when some loon on a motorbike shot past me in Mexborough on one wheel...

Speed is a 1994 American action film directed by Jan de Bont in his feature film directorial debut. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, Sandra Bullock, Joe Morton, and Jeff Daniels. Its story revolves around a bus that is rigged by a terrorist to explode if its speed falls below 50 miles per hour.

You'll have no bother passing the course now mate.

I think I’ve jumped in too quick with booking the course mate, I should have had my day in court and used this as my defence

I once got a ticket overturned in North Wales a few years back. Single carriageway road, national speed limit. The road split around a copse of trees, one lane either way but on separate carriageways either side of the copse. So I sped up to 70, at which point blue lights came on behind. I argued my case in the back seat of the police car to no avail but took some photos of the scene. I sent them in with a letter refuting my guilt and they dropped it.

Turns out their officer didn't know what a dual carriageway was either, for which -to their credit- they had the decency to apologise.

Is that where you were done? It’s a horrible road to do 30 on. I literally never speed and I hate driving down that road as I feel stupid the whole time doing 30 on it, but that’s the speed limit. I actually wish they’d put cameras on to make it less annoying to stick to.
