Good references to two stark opposites in this country: dark satanic mills and England’s green and pleasant land.

The problem is though, for it to mean anything to you, you'd have to be Welsh. I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Some cool anthems out there. Always thought Canada had a good one, and Russia.

And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
    On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
    And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem builded here
    Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: o clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariots of fire!
    I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
    Till we have built Jerusalem
In England’s green and pleasant land.

Far better than God save the tax dodging old bag who nobody gives a monkeys about, complete embarrassment, gracious and noble? more like long to "rain" all over us honest taxpayers.
The entire royal family should be made to live in a council tower block

Quite a contrast to the sickening dirge that we have to put up with.

I'd certainly go with Jerusalem even though in my mind it's inextricably linked with the Python "Buying a Bed" sketch....

Or, as Spitting Image memorably put it:

"I will survive! I will survive!
As long as Charles is next in line I have to stay alive!"

Russia's one is a bit of a sore point here, as it's the Soviet anthem with completely new words. It's a great tune, but a lot of people feel it should have either been left alone or completely ditched for something new, as the new words are a bit forced.

They changed the Soviet anthems lyrics slightly a number of times

ussr and France had the best tunes imo

Correct. They were all a variation on a communist theme though. Agree that the French anthem is a great tune.

Agree about the french anthem. I do like the welsh one too. Whisper it, but I also like Deutchland uber alles. That one is quite rousing
