I hope for a walk round Stainborough Park most Sundays. And do not pay to park. In what way is that not free
Over many years I took many of my clients (young people in care/adult community mental health) up here and spent quality time walking the gardens and visiting the library etc. Then you just parked up and went wherever you pretty much wanted. However I hadn't been for a while and was surprised to see that my access had changed somewhat. I turned up with a client not realising you had to pay to get in. I didn't have enough money on me so that was it. Really disappointing because the place is an absolute gem and was a great therapeutic outlet for me and others.
It recently changed to free parking last summer after a tool in a BMW tried jumping thru the barriers to save £3 and it took the bottom of his engine off but still tried to sue the place for damage to his/her car. Ive had a season ticket for a few year (£40 a year for a family of 4). You get your money back after 3 or 4 visits. we love it and will miss it when its gone. Lovely surroundings and the kids love the park bit and the castle.
I could imagine the castle been a superb. Venue. Of a acoustic concert We used to love the carol concert as well But the conservatory is absolutely amazing
Who owns the place? What will happen to the conservatory - still open? I assume the gardens will get overgrown?? and 'lost.' Annual parking ticket at Y Sculpture Park £60 - worth it if you visit every few weeks or if you have a car-full of visitors.
I live very near and go up twice a month with the kids to see the reindeer, I have never once paid for parking as the machines were removed years ago.
got married up there but agree they charge too much for general entry and they put enough diverse things on. If they branched out more into maybe keeping some smaller animals etc they could do more like cannon hall. Also an indoor soft play area for toddlers somewhere - the one at CH again is massive and very good. Wonder what will happen to it all if it does shut? They cant just let it rot after all the money they have spent on it.
maybe if they did the page as a kickstarter style rather than a justgiving and offered visitor packages they could secure the money for the next year - and do that every year. That way people can get cheaper deals and WCG know they have the money in for another 12 months.
The whole restoration of the gardens, glass house and follies was dependent on EU funding. But you're wasting your breath trying to explain that on here. Never a bottomless pocket of cash and it's time Wentworth Castle stood on it's own 2 feet to withstand the Brexit fallout. Truth is, as has been pointed out, there is just not enough variety up there and what there is, is too niche.
It's a real. Shame. Because. What they have is fantastic. And I know April. And her staff do a fantastic job. However, yes it could do with a little bit more. It's a really shame as it does attract. Visitors from out of the area who spend money. In the area.
Gerra Mackdonalds, KFC and Tacki Bell built on it - it'll get busy then. Litter Feds 'll mek a killin' too - use some of this revenue to keep it goin'
