You make some good points, though I am expecting Jalo to join Cole in making a significant contribution up front.
Comparing MDG to last season's Mads seems very harsh, it took Mads 4 years with us to get to that level. We've signed a new batch of development defenders and need to be patient with them.
I kind of hope it is just a one off because that would be the weirdest thing that has ever happened on the bbs. A return after 5 years to start one thread and then leave. In all seriousness though, it's great to have him back. His stats have been missed along with his general contribution
Yep, there’s been a place there for the taking since Norwood left and none of the three new strikers look capable of taking it. Jalo could well pass them all, and when Marsh comes back he hopefully won’t be far behind. Of course, if Cole bangs a few more in between now and Christmas it’s likely that two places will be up for grabs. Unless someone pulls their finger out or we bring another one in our goals scored total will slow down dramatically. It’s a big ask for a 17 year old to lead the line week in week out.
In terms of results and league positions it's definitely not too bad. However, I made the point elsewhere that game 15 last season marked the watershed moment and we went 16 wins, 3 draws and only 2 defeats over the next 21 games. Game 16 saw Duff pretty much nail the framework for his best starting line-up and it stayed more or less the same from there on in, with the only two games we lost in the 21 game run being the one when Mads was sent off and the one in between Edwards being injured and Bobby Thomas coming into the starting line-up. This season we've also got a princely 0 points from games against other teams currently in the top10 and the defence alone gives me the complete heebie jeebies. Imho none of the centre backs Khaled has landed us with are good enough defensively for the top half of this league. So, and I hope I'm wrong, I just don't see us taking anything like 51 out of the next 63 points again, although on the plus side, the division is pretty weak and Connell is coming back to fitness. Either way, the 'meat' of the season starts in earnest for me from Saturday.
I thought about this yesterday ,if they hadn't lost the points ,we had of been suggesting we have beat a top side away. I think Saturday is going to be a good marker to say where we are. Can't remember the last time we ever got anything at Pride Park.
Without their deduction Wigan would only be 9th or 10th not too six - though that does represent the best away win in terms of form of opposition, that is correct.
I think dodgy was referring to MDG, Shepherd and Lopata mainly. McCart's here on loan and appears to have been the stop gap for Kitching’s departure.
I think that's a pretty reasonable assessment, with the exception of the comment about the centre halves. De Gevigney and Lopata are still settling in but have both looked more than capable. I actually think that McCart is absolutely fine for this level, although I know I'm in a minority. Shepherd has looked very assured when he's come in. I think they're all more than good enough, but bedding in a defence rarely happens overnight. A few aberrations will occur, but overall we've done at least as well as expected defensively.
