RE: Agree with James G In addition a lot of the so called "bigger" clubs at Championship level are big in name only (Wednesday being a classic example) while the reality is despite theit histories they are struggling financially while we are supposedly on a better footing than most. I agree 100% that the "small club" quote is just a crap excuse that gets trotted out to justify abject failure.
I warned you all towards the end of last season about the future under Davey, but I was generally called names for doing so. Unfortunately I'm now being proved right.
If we want to base it on history then no. If you want to look at Swansea today then definately so. They finished higher than us, had bigger crowds, had better players and are in a better position today. If you want to drag the premiership season up then Swansea have a right to say they;ve played in Europe and have finished 6th in the highest league competition in England. They have a nice new ground that holds nearly 33,000 - so if they do well........ Donny - I'd take their position today over ours anyday - not John Ryan though. Bigger club than us? Probably not - more potential today - definately. Plymouth.... mmmm... struggling with that one to be honest. I suppose the size of a club depends on how far back your willing to consider. I personally think you should base it on today and a number of factors.
RE: If we want to base it on history then no. So Dan, in summary, you think BFC are pretty crap as club? Not a proper fan.
RE: If we want to base it on history then no. so Swansea get bigger crowds and finish above us for the first time since 1983 and suddenly they're a bigger club
RE: If we want to base it on history then no. Like I say - depends on your criteria for size of a club. If you want to base it on limited history and not the potential of a club then fine - but you realise Wednesday get grief off us for that. Im not worried about the size of our club by the way. What I am worried about is the ability to compete in this division - of which crowds, investment, income all form a part of - and although I do ultimately think Davey is to blame for the final position I do think he has his hands tied. Im sure he'd love to spend £4m on a striker instead of playing KO upfront, but its not going to happen, coupled with the fact he's wasted most of the money he has been given on players just not good enough.
It's proof that if something is said enough times... it will be accepted. Didn't AR get the chop for saying the same thing?
Its OK I just hoped that the pre-season form would continue - I definitely was in the I'll believe it when I see it camp As for Oddjob - after 2 seasons of trying errr it wasnt even a hope - having said that - he plays well as long as you dont expect goals
Agree with that ....... ...... despite what a lot think on here, I am desperate for us to do well, and would love SD, Oddjob etc. to prove me wrong but I just can't see any light at the end of the tunnel as things stand, even I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking is it worth going to the match, and that's never happened before!
RE: Based on what? I actually prefer to live in the here and now rather than clutching to to our one season of glory.
RE: You disagree that we are small, unfashionable, with limited resources? Go on then, tell us why you think Barnsley are big time Charlies. Could it be the antique roadshow West stand? could it be the secret millionaire backer? could it be the passionate boo boys that lift the team every week? Go on Jimboy give us all the benefit of your wisdom. No really, leave the "I go, you don't" arguement aside for an instant and give it a shot.
RE: If we want to base it on history then no. leaving to one side your apparent hysteria over this topic, without checking, I suspect Swansea have spent more years in the top flight than we have. What is 'big' anyway?
RE: If we want to base it on history then no. There you go:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swansea_City_A.F.C.#League_positions_and_Cup_results_since_World_War_II It's been good times for them from the mid 80s to 2005 - fifth bottom of the entire league in 2002 and fourth bottom in 2003 - Massive
Sorry but when I was looking for some info for E.I Addio I couldn't help but notice that the Liberty Stadium does not hold 33,000 - in fact it does not hold 2/3 of that It actually holds 3,000 less than Oakwell http://www.footballgroundguide.com/swansea_city/
RE: So, twice as long as us in the top flight then. nt Aye difference being that it was so long ago most people can't remember it You didn't comment on anything else I said though - about 'em being fourth from bottom of the entire league six years ago stuff like that
RE: So, twice as long as us in the top flight then. nt I think the 'when' is hardly relevant. Still looking for a definition of 'big' Success? Longevity? Pots in the cupboard? Bum on seats? What?
