It is an investment. It's an investment in the area, it's people with a goal to make the Town centre more appealing.

The more appealing it is, the more people will spend time there. The more people spend time there, the more money comes in.

Would you like more car parks? Do you not know the value of gardens and green spaces? And it is 33 feet, or 10 metres in European.

It actually probably hasn't cost that much. It looks like a free loan, most probably because it was bought with public money by YSP. And given it's physical nature, the transit and installation would not be much different than that of a construction object of a similar scale and logistic.

If Barnsley wasn't getting this kind of treatment and respect, there would be cause for argument. We are not diggers anymore and the town's existence depends on it's reinvention in the modern age. We are a growing education centre and public art objects reflect that. Trust me, in a few years time local people will adore the cube-boy on the plinth as he becomes more and more part of their lives and landscape.

And as the town centre gets more built up, this makes parks and gardens more essential to our lives and collective psyche. Somewhere just to chill the fck out and stop us smacking the boss. The reactionaries will kick off as usual, but these are exactly the kind of people who make these places so essential and probably need them the most, as Tyrone has amply demonstrated.

See, I can talk ***** with the best of em.

perhaps, Public funds ought to be spent on a former PM's funeral..

you know someone who didn't believe in society. Oh wait a minute.
Crime prevention budget slashed by 60%, South Yorkshire Police lose funding for their helicopter, but hey lets give public money towards an old divisive bitch's funeral.
    Ding feckin Dong.

Tyrone - your initial post seems to be that the council is wasting money on the art (whether or not you appreciate said art is irrelevant), as the article you posted was specifically about the art work and not the building of the garden. As I understand it, the art is not being purchased by the council, but instead is being lent to us. So it is not costing us anything. But don't let that get in the way of a good moan, eh?

I'm all for it. I'd probably replace the art installation with a 30 ft bronze sculpture of sir bobby though
