Part of the pathetic golden generation which has meant his propensity to being a damned cheat has gone without too much criticism.
From what I've seen its something you need. The difference between say RNL and say stones is mental. Stones would give people what for on the pitch. RNl doesn't and I feel if he did he would elevate is game just like butterfield did. When he started to make himself heard on pitch soon he was one of the best in the league
I'm talking about verbally abusing the referee and respect (or lack of it). That has nothing to do with your ability as a player. Oh hang on, is this where we get to the bit where Gary Lineker is crap....
So then Phil, if swearing at officials is necessary, why do you hate SIR BOBBELDINHO for doing it once?
Oh, and Paul Gascoigne was always in your face, ordering players about and generally winding up the opposition, referee and supporters.
I'm bowing out of this thread before the accusations of bullying arise once more. Was fun for a while, mind. Love you, Phil.
Competitive spirit does kick in on a pitch - I know it's not an excuse though. To be fair fans are worse - heard some appalling chants over the years
I know loads of lads who are sound off the pitch but can be absolute bell ends on it especially to officials & opponents. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's gradually got worse over the years, Gerrard's just following on from what others have been allowed to get away with. Some of the stuff the United & Arsenal teams led by Keane & Vieira got away with was a disgrace
Without a doubt. It's a football thing and it needs sorting out. Rugby have got it nailed on. Refs wired up, with small microphones, talking to the players all through the game, telling them what decisions they've made and why. Sin bin, and punishments for lack of respect. It's time the FA did something because we are bringing up a breed of utter brats. There's no need for it.
Totally agree phil, it's totally different when you get on that football pitch no matter what level you play at, how many times have you seen a little old dear out walking her dog suddenly start going ballistic and forking anyone who dares get in her way whenever she's walked across a local football pitch
If Gerrard has a right to do it then why does the FIFA laws of the game state that it is a sending off offence?
