Well you certainly can't say he didn't want to bring the government down, he is a Marxist and was not only against the Conservatives but against capitalism as well.

You can't say that unions didn't have way too much power in the 70s either, they held the country to ransom, destroyed the British car industry, caused blackouts, they needed their power cutting back.

    ye and she hated socialists
blackouts were caused by miners fighting for a living wage sorry for the inconvenience.
maybe some union activists were a bit zealous.but whats your view now on greedy fat corperates thats lining there pockets on the bcks of low waged (slaves) workers.

Also, strange that Britain led the world in clean coal technology so perhaps the Green argument souks not stack up either.

There is a direct correlation between those events and where we are today. And I'm quite aware there has been 13 years of "Labour" Government.

Another poster stated that Scargill wanted rid of capitalism. A noble intention in any case.

heard this defence of pit closures a thousand times.
the pits labour shut were on their last legs.the pits the tories closed were the most efficient in europe, and the most profitable, dont belive the crap you read in the papers.
huge development costs incurred from the plan for coal were placed upon individual pits by the tories to make them look unprofitable.

the tories shut the pits to break the trade union movement, which they did,and it was all part of the plan to get rid of everything state owned and turn it into private enterprise.

DP can I ask you a genuine question. How does the recent court case involving Scargill make you feel? Does the fact that he was still fighting for quite a luxurious expenses and consultancy package from union coffers, all these years after many miners lost their jobs make you angry or do you accept it and think he deserves it?

The proof isn't in the pudding. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Just thought I better clear that one up.

    all a myth this jedi.

scargill was followed and watched 24 hours a day during the strike,,thatcher knew when he was having a *****...if these tales about him and his large house and buying new jags were true there would have been pictures and films to say so,make no mistake about it.

i'll comment on that mario if i may.
it was in his contract as it was in gormleys ontract before him,
not saying contract was right or wrong but one thing i can say is you try to alter a contract at board level of a company and you'd have a war on your hands and their cotracts are very very lucrative whether the company is viable or not .thingis the media don't seem to make as much fuss with them probably because of the law suits they can afford not to mention friends in high places etc, scargill won't have that hence the media campaign

Thanks Marlon, I know exactly what you're saying. I hadn't realised just how much he was still claiming, despite being effectively retired, until the story hit the news. All things considered I found the whole situation very distasteful.
