Teacher's pensions are paid for by us - teachers. Pay a lot of money into mine thank you very much.

Wrong job is something I hear a lot - I love my job not the rubbish that goes with it - rubbish created by successive governments

Don't worry about it. MRX is either a WUM or one of those who knows nothing about teaching and listens (and believes all the rhetoric spouted by Gove et al in the coalition) I refused to be drawn in spite of the fact that he stated he was paying for your pension "as a Taxpayer" . Funny I thought teachers paid tax as well. The Govt are the employers so it stands to reason that they use tax revenue (the only income they have) to pay the employers contribution (except they don't preferring instead to appopriate the TP fund for the treasury coffers and then claim Teachers pensions re too costly and unviable). MRX won't understand or believe that preferring to believe the tripe put out that the private sector are subsidising the Public sector. Victim of the 'divide and conquer' tactics of the Govt !

    Not really
I just get sick of all the crying from teachers about how bad their job is
Six weeks summer holiday to recuperate and prepare for september
It may be a surprise for you poor little stressed out trampled down people that there are far more lower paid stressful jobs in the private sector together with a paltry two week summer holiday period where the lower paid will struggle to pay for a holiday thus becoming more stressed due to family and kids expectations
Tell me what time table does a typical school work to ?
    9-4 hour lunch
    Morning 30 mins break
    Afternoon 30 mins break
And hang on a minute whats this new role called teaching assistants ?
Never had them when we were at school yet the teachers were pro active and happy
Working day of say 5 hours
    Stress ?
If it is so bad get another job - therein lies the irony.

Give me your typical working hours and I'll share mine!

    Get in about 7:45
    Kids in at 8:55

    10 minute morning break

    Finish at 12:15
Dinner duty plus a club so typically a 15 minute lunch break

10 minute break in the afternoon

    Finish at 3:30 - leave school about 5:30 - 6:00

Get home - start work at 8 and finish between 11 and 12

    Saturday off

Sunday - typically 4-5 hours work

    Stress?

Putting all your other points aside, what happens if all the teachers decide to go and get another job?

    Re: The figure comes from...

Sorry. Don't really want to get into a argument about who dies earlier! I just don't believe the 18 month life expectancy after retiring business.

By the way. My "office job" entitles getting to cold site cabins (which could be a two hour drive away) for 7am. Running round having various meetings, hitting deadlines etc. and leaving around half 5 / 6 for another 2 hour drive home. Then doing whatever needs doing for tenders etc. at weekends and evenings.

I'm lucky. I'm not carrying round a scaffold pole on my shoulder at 60+ years old in the freezing cold.

The striking I agree with. I just don't for one second believe teachers are expected to die 18 months after retiring!

Ps there's a joiner on site currently in his 70s... Fit as a fiddle. Loves it. I had him down as 60 year old! I think different people react differently that's all I'm saying.

I am in school every single day 8-6 (barring today and weekends obviously). Well, sometimes 7:50 truth be told if traffic is kind, if that's what you are debating. Do you think I turn up when the kids do and everything is magically planned, made and set out on the tables and then at 3:30 I walk straight out leaving 150 books a day unmarked, paperwork empty and meetings unattended?
