Regardless of the point either one of you is making, if he's addressing specific points in your post, then using the quote to pick out each piece, and then make the comments to that....seems a reasonable way of doing it.

All I'm saying is that using a quote so you can address specific comments to it is a reasonable way to do it….rather than just making comments and people are thinking "what's that in reference to" - it's a common way to address points.

And as I said - that is regardless of what the argument (or side of the argument) is.
