Not if we play three at the back, with the very left-footed Pinnock on the left (instead of his current position on the right) with Lindsey in the middle and Jackson on the right.

I quite liked your dream until you dragged up Yorkshire tykes again.

Playing with our name is likely the only thing I would be heavily against

    It’s not a dream.
    It will happen.
    Mark my words.
    All the signs are there.

Genuine question , how do you attract 4 quality players of championship quality to drop to division one ? Unless you utilise the loan market , which is often frowned upon by our fan base .

Based on this Sunderland should be top imo they have the best squad in the division with us and a few other teams fighting for 2nd. I expect top 6 I hope top 2.

    Those are my expectations.

But my indicator of success would be this:

That Barnsley competes on a financial level playing field with Leeds and the Sheffield clubs.
And as such attract players to Barnsley which would otherwise have gone to those clubs.

When that happens - we will then stop leaking football supporters from Barnsley to those clubs.

    That’s my indicator of success.

I’d expect based on ability us and Sunderland to be the top 2. The rest is down to management coaching tactics and luck.

Good opening post, and interesting views.

I tend not to get too worked up about long term success or failure. It’s football. Most of us have watched it long enough to know relegation and promotion tends to happen no matter who the owners, managers, players are. Just enjoy going to watch the team on any given day, have a couple of beers, and sometimes take in an away day to new grounds.

My expectation this year was to watch us win some football matches, hopefully a lot more than we lose, and play some nice attacking football at times. On that front I’m fairly happy. I had a real hope we would go back up first time, but no expectation. But I still think we may. Perhaps via the playoffs.

Enjoying watching most of the players this year, and especially seeing the passion from the management team. That’s been missing for a while for me. Hecky had energy at first but that quickly went. Can’t believe how young our whole squad is. While I welcome and applaud it, and think some of the players will go on to be superb once they have 100,150,200 professional games behind them, I do hope we can balance it with a couple of older experienced professionals and leaders in January and beyond. The value of players will go up with success and I think the right blend of youth and experience will get more success.

    It’s football !?!?!
    It’s just football !?!?!

The last time a local club got promoted to the Premier League it was Sheffield United - all those years ago.

At that time BBC Radio Sheffield said that promotion would bring £45 MILLION into the local economy.
That was years ago - so with the continuous upward trend of the Premeir League then what would a promotion to that league be worth to the local economy now ???
    £100 million???
    £200 million???

So don’t tell me it’s just football.

Ah nudge. Now you’ve misquoted it haven’t you treacle.

I said “it’s football”. Which, correct me again if I’m wrong, it is. It’s not rugby, and it’s certainly not cricket.

So I’ll stand resolutely behind my original statement. It is football.

I expected top 2 & still think it should be achievable.

Of course you can be unlucky like Shrewsbury were last season & get a really high points total but still not get automatic promotion & if that’s the case then it’d be unfair to be critical of Stendel.

I was disappointed we sold Bradshaw as I very confident of top 2, now I just think we’ll go up but don’t say it with any great confidence.

I think Sunderland will have a big advantage going in to january with their parachute payments giving them the spending power , but if we are still in the front pack , one or two useful signings could make the difference , at least this season is interesting for the right reasons .

How would promotion to the Premier League bring hundreds of million into the local economy?

Reading this post I think many are dismissing pompey everyone speaks about us and Sunderland should be top two. Look at pomtsmoths squad they have a very good squad for this level, they have rich owners, a good manager who has promoted teams at this level before, they get around 5k more than us every week so I'd expect their budget to be bigger and will be able to strengthen further in January.

Under previous managers here were our form and football has been poor. Posters on here have made excuses that they have had injurys to deal with ect. Stendal has had moore, potts, pinnilos, dougall, hedges,Woodrow, victor all injured for spells this season not to mention isgrove. He has had Davies and dougall on international call ups a few times and we are still 4th with a game in hand.
