I wouldn't expect one player to raise the performances of the other 10. Its more likely that 10 players who struggle to string passes together with an unclear game plan drag the standard of the one player down. We have too many players that arent good enough for me. If we do have a game plan they cant execute it. If we dont have a plan then they arent good enough to compensate. Its the basics i look for first and we struggle to pass our way forwards into pressure positions. We pass fairly accurately backwards and rarely string 3 passes forwards.
I’m not just going to use the Wycombe game as an example. Cotter has improved a lot this season but there is a negative edge to his game that costs us sometimes. It was his mistake leading to Wycombe’s 2nd goal last night. I do like Barry tho and that’s not a criticism from me. I just want better and more options. If other teams lower down the pyramid than us can find them, why can’t we? Barry needs to improve his decision making. I think he confuses himself too often sometimes. I’m talking Adam Hammill on one side with Isgrove on the other. One who gets you off your feet when they get the ball…..the other pure pace to get in behind. Wycombe and Stockport both brought on these types of players in the past two games who changed the game for them and nearly got them the win. We don’t have that player in our squad at all to either start or bring on as an option.
