You could argue they did get punished though. It contributed to there being 7 minutes added time and we scored in the 6th of those. Reap what you sow.
Just seen the highlights, you're right, Connell was shown two yellows in the incident relating to the kick off. Presumably one for encroaching and one for dissent. So that makes three in total. The referee should have intervened before Connell lost his rag, but if he runs into the centre circle and ******** the ref then he's going to get booked. Twice was overkill like.
Unpopular opinion, but dissent is dissent. You can clearly see Connell doing that "cricket bowl" gesture as he approached the ref. The same thing Dalot got sent off for for Man Utd. The ref, however terrible, isn't going to change his mind, just play on. Big miss on Tuesday now.
That’s the problem with the ref’s, rules are rules but don’t apply to every player. The inconsistency is the only consistent thing about them. You can stand in front of the ball and prevent a quick free kick, no problem , yet if you kick the ball away it’s a yellow card (rightly so, of course) That ref and linesman on the EastStand side seemed to have a ‘if in doubt give it Orient’ approach
I have seen players loads of time encroach in the centre circle when the game is being restarted, but I have never seen one booked for it, they usually just blow the whistle and restart it. Dissent is exactly that and sometimes you get away with it sometimes you don’t, but encroachment in the centre circle at ko never has been an automatic yellow card.
I can’t remember that and I sit in the West Stand! Will trust you though. There were definitely a couple of other occasions where they did it and received no card.
Connell was lucky not to get booked for a challenge before he picked up his first booking. After we scored, they were fannying around with the kick off, Connell encroached, the ref told him to get back, so the kick off could be retaken, Connell clearly said something amiss and the ref booked him for it and seemed to be ready to get on with the game. However, it occurred to him (or one of his colleagues reminded him) that Connell had already been booked, so he got the yellow out again to show he was being sent off for two bookable offences. He didn’t receive three yellows. I suspect that had the ref realised Connell was already on a yellow he would have let the verbals slide with a warning
I too thought the ref flashed a yellow twice. Had he meant to show the red but pulled the yellow out again?
It’s cos we was making the point about them time wasting something the ref failed to actually deal with during the game. He then lost his head (the ref) would love to see the assessors feedback cos he totally lost control today.
