What if five or six of those shots had gone in today?

No-one is saying Crewe deserved to win or were the better side. We totally dominated the second half, they parked the bus and the winning goal was fortunate. But our tactics weren't working and he never changed it. Good management requires flexibility and everyone could see we were getting nowhere trying to break them down. It needed a change with at least half an hour to go, but he left it far too late. Winnall was isolated and we needed Smith on to go long, get bodies in the box and put them under pressure. Not pretty, but necessary. They defended against us far too easily. I don't want him sacked for the same reasons as you don't, we can't keep sacking managers, but he was poor today.

No excuses. I'm as critical as the next man, listen to my ******** on youtube.

But what are we achieving in constantly slating everything?

Andy lad atha on commission this week defending LJ....lol....

unfortunately once again his attitude to the set up of the game plan, his tactics during the game, and his blo0dy mindedness have once again led to his and our short comings

a blind man on a galloping horse can see where and whats wrong

that said my question is this........

At what point does Patrick Cryne and the board come clean about the direction our club is going.
weve made the same mistake after mistake with managers
ive lost count of the times weve been down this same route

    nothing changes....

who is calling the actual shots from owner / board level down

because im convinced that the club in general just want us to bob along treading water

otherwise what other excuse can be given for the dross we are expected to witness week in weekout

yes LJ needs to change tack.....that said why should he give a flying **** if those above him have no ambition to move forward

if he did apply for the Rotherham job that speaks volumes .....says more about the club and the owners/ boards plans for the future than it does about LJ dont you think

And... its not just about the 'what ifs' either is it? It's about the entertainment value on the pitch, win or lose. It's NOT good to watch. It's dull, dire, boring, tippy-tappy, unimaginative, over-coached, bland, clueless, slow, defensive carp! That's one hell of a fish!

If 5 or 6 of them had gone in today then their number 1 would have been arrested for impersonating a goalkeeper. A high number of piss poor speculative shots that were either off target or so poor that Ben alnwick could have saved them with his eyes shut isnt unlucky when they don't go in, its poor poor olay

Agree about possession, but against Swindon we had only 12 attempts as against 18 today, and 5 on target as against 8 today...obviously stats don't tell you they were crap shots..but that happens, but we got in to the danger area far more today but didn't make it count. I think though an extra man up front could have made 18 attempts into 25 or 6.
To be honest though I don't think we were that good against Swindon, the 2-1 half time score flattered us, although I thought we did deserve to win the game over the 90 mins...and we seemed to play exactly the same system.

Yes in fact it's probably worse. Even when we win the football is bloody awful.

As I said in another thread Winnall and Watkins should have had 2 apiece today. 3 terrible headers from cracking crosses having got in behind them for the umpteenth time. Added to those chances Watkins was clearly onside for Winnall's disallowed goal. I'm not used to Barnsley getting to the by-line but we did it repeatedly today. As Johnson said sometimes the delivery was poor sometimes the finishing was. Put the two together and we'd have got a hatfull.

And I can't see how today was tippy tippy either. We consistently spread the play in to attacking positions with excellent cross field balls and Watkins pulled in to give two in the box in a 4-3-3 with the ball. Wabara pushed on and exploited the space outwide. We played most of the second half in their half. Hourrihane was poor and we lacked a man supporting from the central 3 and Winnall struggles to play the lone striker. It could have been much better. But it was certainly better than many think IMHO.

    Dear me.

If five or six of those shots had gone in then the opposition would have had a goalkeeper even poorer than nick townsend. It's not like we were banging on the door and the Crewe keeper had a worldy.

But even that isn't the point. Win or lose (and we are tending not to win) the football being played is absolute gash. It is boring, tepid, uncommitted, fearful. People pay money to watch, it should at least be a little entertaining. If we won five in a row this way, there would be little or no buzz round town, no significant increase in walk ups paying on the day, as nobody would be raving about the side.

There is a huge correlation between how well Barnsley play at oakwell with the crowd level. The bigger the crowd, the better the atmosphere, the better they play, generally speaking. No manager could come in and make us world beaters or unbeatable even at this level. But it is not necessary to play in this god awful manner. If it worked it might be excused, but it isn't, it wont, so why not try a faster paced, pressing, attacking approach? The gates would increase even if we lost a couple four three or drew two or three a piece if people heard in the boozers or work or whatever that the side was good to watch, even if not always winning.

LJ will never, ever produce that. Bums on seats is the lifeblood and week on week there are less and less numbers through the turnstiles and more and more dissenting voices on here.

Whether or not you believe he might improve results wise (I'm not sure he ever will), it's clear he's never going to produce a crowd enticing game, so even from a business point of view there's an argument to get shot. From a sporting point of view there's less and less reason to persist. We might well have won today - we didn't, and won't win many games in this manner.

Some really big **** off IFs to turn 6 of those shots into goals. We had 18 shots, yet the goal aside I can't remember thinking we should have scored there too often
