141 miles according to google maps, door to door. That's the motorway route like, but as far as time goes, I've always found it the quickest because if you head over the A65 you invariably hit a lot of slow moving traffic. On my own I'd pass a lot of it, with my in-laws in the car, I don't want to scare them. Google maps reckons 3 hours, there's lots of 50 mile pre hour zones on the M62 at the moment. So that's setting off at 8:30 to give yourself a fair chance and hope you don't hit any major hold ups. That's not breakfast at 8:30 or packing car up after a week at 8:30 or dropping keys off at the rental place at 8:30, it's setting off. I'm taking my wife and her parents for a relaxing week in the Lake District, I'm not sure that should include getting them out of bed at 7:30 on their last day so I can get to the match.

In theory we don't open after but we'll see if we can with it being an early kick off.

Take them all out for a nice meal on Saturday night to show your appreciation for getting them up early

Do a Wainwright instead. Good for the soul. And bring back some Grasmere gingerbread.

Whereabouts in the lakes jay? A65 is a nonsense road most of the time but what about the A66 to Scotch Corner and back down th'A1?

A66 is mostly dual carriageway past Penrith, Saturday mornings are from experience pretty quiet.

That said its tight no matter how you look at it so you might have had your chips

    Sorry, I assume grasmere.

Easy job, head towards Keswick, turn right at thirlmere towards threlkeld and get on't 66. Easy pickings - adds maybe 8 or ten mile but takes two an half hours home I reckon (to middle of tarn anyway)

Had a feeling this would happen. Perhaps it would be an idea to look at this with a bit more notice though. You have to buy ages in advance for cheap train tickets from London (and probably other far flung places). Luckily most of us LondonTykes are up North visiting families over Easter anyway. I'm hoping 'The Captain' didn't buy his tickets - think he was the only one doing the journey.
I don't see much sense in it if it's anything to do with drinking and 'trouble'. The numpties will still get drunk and fight after the game whatever time it is.
