The BBS is dying because .........it is difficult to use and it dosen't look good....

........how many days go by without someone asking how to do this that and the other on this board ?

........and, it just isn't as nice to look at as the old message board..........the site is ugly

Gally listened to a few complaining about the speed of the old board and because of that we are left with this bleeding monstrosity..........in my view thats not fair on the majority of guys that loved the old board

I know Gally does his best to accomadate everybody and has tried his best putting this board together.
We now need Gally to find a system which is both as quick as this board but looks as nice as the old board

Re: Its 100% categorically down to the format and the platform

I read one of the justifications of the new format being the cost of keeping the old one going and that Site Admin were having to fork out. I think I can speak for Hartog in saying the reason we dont bother is that with less time to kill these days, the format makes it time prohibative. Even with Hemsworth and little or no real inside news from the club, we'd still knock about a bit more if the old format came back.

Cant speak for TFP, but I guess he's got too many kids and not enough hair.

I don't think it's possible to attribute the apparant downfall of a once fascinating forum to one individual, and I think you've gone a step too far in singling out an individual for blame, but I have some sympathy with your point.

What I dislike about this forum nowadays is that there is very little evidence of any sensible, reasoned and constructive debate from the kind of people that you sit back and think "hey, I could have a beer with that person if I happened to meet them." Back in the day, those kind of posters seemed to be in the majority.

Why I say I have sympathy - the poster you refer to embodies most of the characteristics I dislike. No effort to communicate effectively, no effort to understand the motives or meaning of others, generally rude but mostly bizarre and incomprehensible. There have been many like him over the years (dreamboy his predecessor), which has often been the reason I read far more than I contribute. Generally I've ignored those I don't like, and read those that I do. What seems to have changed is that it's no longer possible to read a thread which isn't comprised in the main of posts by the small group of individuals I find to be least appealing.

So I read and contribute even less than I did. I'm damn certain this doesn't make a difference to the majority on the board, nor would I expect it to, but if you're looking for the reasons the contributions are so sparse, this may be a more widely held view. Perhaps it's just that the younger contributors are now from a generation where internet forums have always existed, for whom 'textspeak' has always been commonplace and accepted by their peers, and who feel they can create an 'internet persona' that doesn't reflect them as an individual, just because they think it's a bit of a laugh. That's fine, just not for me - I'd rather deal with real people.

I'll still keep reading, and I hope the forum picks up again in the future. It's still the most relevant place on the internet for BFC news, and I still like to read the few interesting perspectives that remain.

You can't blame Hemsworth for the decline on here. I personally don't have an issue with him or his posts but if I did I would just ignore him - it's quite easy to do on a forum.

    the "ignore" function is great

Hemsworth, reev......? who are these people you speak of?

Some people seem to have a strange agenda to want to kill the bbs, if you say its dying often enough its a self fulfilling prophecy. Don't get it meself.

Its just a forum, view it in passing, in the grand scheme it aint all that important, real life goes on...................

    heyho.

Yes the decline did start a while ago back on the old forum. When we moved across I had a lot of trouble logging in but thanks to assistance from Farnham I got in. If I hadn't managed it I think I would have done what a lot of others have done and just called it a day. The migration to this new forum cost us a few posters IMO.

I honestly don't know. The new site doesn't have the flow of the old one but you get used to it. I wouldn't blame HT either. He can be an irksome little t w a t but is that enough to stop people posting? I put him on ignore sometimes (or I did on the old site, not done it on here) when I get sick of reading his drivel (and he does talk some baba) but wouldn't stop posting because of it. People no longer going to Oakwell, people stopping posting on here, maybe people are just falling out with the football circus so have no interest, so no reason to come on here. The beautiful game has been fecked up the harris by the greed of players and agents, can't say I blame folk for being turned off.

    It just isn't user-friendly anymore

I've hardly posted since this new site came along. Had problems logging in with my old name so registered with a new one. It's not easy to follow in threaded view, it doesn't change colour when you've already viewed a thread and the nested view is even worse.
It doesn't matter to me who posts, I can always ignore people like Giore who is wearing a bit thin and is nowhere near as funny as Adam Hinchcliffe.
It's also difficult to post pictures as JLWBL has proved with his lack of Girl Fridays.
Hemsworth tyke doesn't bother me one bit, provides some useful information on the Academy players at times and only has the best interest of BFC at heart.
It's pure speculation but I think that if the old site could have been cleaned up and speeded up then the number of posts would not have dropped.

I can't say exactly what the problem is, but I'm one of those who used to regularly read, and quite often post. I do both less often now. It just seems to be something uninviting with the layout, format, software, etc. Much like why Apple have success with their i-range of products, and competitors struggle. It's the UI/UX.
