RE: In their defence I agree with that. To be honest I think TT made a rod for his own back by snuggling up to PRiddy and Walker then spouting the official line when many people knew it was utter *****.
RE: You've just negated the whole point of your original post! because although people can still fake the name they cant fake the name and signature/avatar so you would still know who is who and also even partial registration does provide some help to site admin in regulating the site. for example if tonight there were lots of 'bad' postings then city tyke could just for the one night set the board to register only.
Nope I'm much better looking. This is a decent site but i'm not sure if it's better than the other one yet. Who is the censor boss anyway?
I've seen that but i aint been able to get the picture up. I've been into the control panel but i must be doing summat wrong. (clown)
I guess it must be City Tyke. We've yet to see how things pan out. Say what you like about the old admin - they were pretty strong in sticking to minimal censorship. (That should get one or two going!!!)
that is impossible If (for example) someone posts up personal telephone numbers, addresses details of nicked pin numbers etc.. Then site admin would have to act.
Hmm A couple of people have mentioned messages dissapearing. Until now I thought it might have been user error not posting them properly (I have managed to do that my myself somehow - I assumed I'd previewed but not submitted but not so sure now) but it can't be if the messages have been read. I'll try and find out if there are any known bugs in the software that do that. But this has opened up an interesting subject. When should site admin remove posts?
Posts should only be deleted When there is a real risk that defamation / libel action could be taken against the site / site owners. Even in this case there should be a notice added in it's place explaining that the post has been removed and why and a private message sent to the user concerned explaining the nature of the offence and possibly a sticky thread detaling guidelines on what posts should or should not be allowed to contain in the way of insults, etc. I recall there were that many defamatory posts about Doyle on the last site that his name was added to the swear filter to stop him taking legal action! That kind of thing is sensible.
RE: Hmm Gross profanity - picture attachments which are overtly pornographic Illegality - Anything that failure to remove would put the site administrators at risk of libel proceedings etc. On that note, at Doom9 forums, every post has a "report" button along with quote, reply etc. Other users can press this and when they do, all admins are emailed with a direct link to the offending post. Is this possible, or even a good idea for this forum? If it is implemented it should only be registered users, not guests who can use it, to prevent spamming of moderators with reports on inoffesnive threads. Any members abusing the system could have their accounts suspended. It works well for us anyway.
RE: Hmm The "report" function is a good idea - they have it on the Digital Spy boards. Gives you the option to include comments about why you think it is unacceptable, it is a good way of bringing posts to admins attention without them having to read every message.
