Reconditioned red Morris Minor 1969 ... aged 17 (in the late 80s)

Looked beautiful, turned a lot of heads.

I was meant to be helping my dad do it up to learn about cars, but I didn't get a look in, it was his little hobby and I just stood around trying to have a go.

I loved that car.

Funny how you remember the reg after all these years. It was almost 20 years ago I bought mine!

I was 17, and it had a red leather interior, so I went for black interior paint work and a red exterior job. It gleamed all the time and got plenty of looks. The thing I remember most about it was the sound of the engine as the car slowed down at about 45 mph and it "Ffferrrrrrrrrrrrpd" into a lower gear. Other things were the

Starter button - turn the key, then pull the button to start it
Headlight dipper on the floor by the foot pedals
Synchro-mesh gears that meant you couldn't go from 2nd to 1st if you were moving at any speed above a slight roll
