A 1993 ford fiesta. It had seen better days when I got it. By the time i had done with it the only thing it was good for was scrap. I loved it though gave me my independence.
A 1987 Mk2 VW Golf that my Dad bought and I was lucky enough to take a few years later. Had just shy of 200,000 miles on it when I let it go. Had a problem with the wiper fuses blowing regularly in the mid 90s, @Sheriff will remember us going to Rochdale away for the League Cup game back in 1996 when the wipers failed whilst in Lane 3. Cue him and our other mate Gavin with heads out of the window in torrential rain giving me guidance to switch lanes and avoid the other traffic. Luckily we were close to Hartshead Moor services and managed to blindly trundle in and replace the fuse. Solved by replacing the whole switch package on the steering column from a scrapped golf at Carlton scrapyards. Also once got scalded feet when the heater matrix cracked just outside Harewood House gates. Heard the pop whilst at the lights and then hot water poured out of the heater vents onto my feet. Great car though, a bit like Trigger's broom.
E585 YHL blue Vauxhall Nova I bought off a vicar. I got 75 mph out of it once downhill with a following breeze.
We played Caernarfon town away in the cup, I've no idea what year that was . I drove because I thought it was only a couple of hours away .... I've just got back .
Black Mini, with "go faster" stripes with the words "sporty" on the side. Check seats. Car had been imported from Europe, so steering wheel had been moved over & sound proofing wasn't great, as a result. Bought in 1983 & I had it for about 5 years. Was a bit problematic at times, but revives some happy memories! It had "drum brakes". I'm a lover of drum breaks.
Chrysler Alpine. 2=tone green/cream. Bought it in 84 and it was prob 8 years old at least. Weighed about 14 tonnes.
Took my first driving test in my Dad's Avenger. Vinyl roof. Died of rust within 5 years of it going on the road. I think he bought it 78/79. was branded Chrysler I think... Bring back the vinyl roof. Vinyl is on it's way back.
1982 chevette in s**t brown with go faster stripes. got me to Ipswich and back as well as a few closer ones. Had to do so many add ins, stereo, fog light etc. both wings dropped to pieces as well. took me 6 months to realise drives seat actually moved as it was seized up. My mate had to drive it once with hi knees under his chin cos he’s 6’5. happy times
Fiat Panda 750L Was living in London at the time. Drove it up to tarn one weekend and broke down right next to Peel St bogs.
Yes there was the Chrysler one. My Hillman was on a 71 plate got it off my dad in about 1979. Don’t recall a rust problem though and it was a nice runner
