I used to love nights out at the post office when I was at college, me and a few mates used to go every week, Nicky Eaden and Dave Watson included. Great times!

    Working in a Slaughterhuose

At Barnsley Abattoir just across the road from Oakwell. Started in the Hot Summer of 1976, Bloody hard work as well. I collected 2 churns of blood a day for Albert Hirst for his black pudding. Emptying the contents of the bellies into the **** cart than washing them out and hanging them to dry for the tripe-man to collect. Hanging up the Offals for the meat Inspector to inspect and then putting them away in the big fridges. I was paid £20 per week gross. I left to go into the pit for a little extra money. £7 a week more was a lot when you were earning so little.
Still don't know how I stuck it our for 9 months but I did.

Apart from a paper round, glass collector in Silvers and barman in Whispers (don't count those as part-time) and a placement student (part of the course but some of the time was using a laser to cut holes in condoms and femidoms). My first job was operating an aluminium furnace at LSM in Rotherham. Lasted four weeks, splashed molten aluminium up my leg and walked out for a 50% pay cut to work in an office...
