True, but there's no such thing as a healthy portion of fish and chips or a healthy single malt either, and if we only ever did things that were good for us we'd have pretty boring lives. We live on a planet that is warmed by the sun. We could cover up and never feel that sun on our face, but being out on a nice day makes you feel good. Will what I suggested completely remove the risk of skin cancer? Nope, but limiting your exposure, using sun cream and preventing yourself from being burned significantly reduces the risks, while still letting you enjoy what can be a very pleasurable experience. Skin cancer should certainly be taken seriously, but do all of the above and the chances are you are going to die of summat else.
Some people will never "go brown" no matter how much they sunbathe. Some people just go red, burn and peel so may as well not bother. As Fired says, the risks far outweigh the benefits so best to be sensible, keep topping up the sun cream levels and just enjoy the good weather without fretting about tanning
Thanks Jay! Thanks everyone else for the advice too. I'm not too fussed about tanning, I've gotten used to not now, but I've always had the feeling I must be doing something wrong without knowing. Little bursts (with suncream) to get my skin used to not dieing of shock when it sees some sunlight sounds like a sensible idea. When I was younger my mam used to make us chase the shade around with our sunloungers. She was the only person in the entire of Spain who would get up early to nab the loungers in the shade from the hotel!!
Agree sun beds should be banned anybody that uses one for me is short of brain cells and don,t get me started on spray tans.
