RE: The difference though IS in what the garment is

But what is "live as we do"? Who are we?

What are they "getting away with" exactly? They are simply wearing a veil!

You are now trying to control what someone wears in a free society. You are saying that they shouldn't wear it so where do you stop. So you are objecting to turbans and veils - what about the Jewish skullcap (can't remember the proper term) or their tradional attire on the Sabbath, perhaps you wish to ban that as well. We better ban Christians from wearing a crucifix, not to mention banning the local priest from walking around in his dog collar as well. I suppose you also want Muslim men to shave off their beards as well as that is a religous thing.

Good point, and i didn't want to use the SAS thing as an example but it was the best i could think of.

But arn't the muslim women using the veil to disguise themselves,

    It's a matter of context.

I see someone wearing a veil coming towards me, I think nothing of it.

I see someone wearing a balaclava coming towards me, I get ready.

    So - in summary ...

... this is a Christian nation?
Everyone who lives in this country should abide by Christian Religous teachings?

I'd better book my place on the boat.
    Not sure where to.

    Dinner, obviously.

Nice people wear balaclavas. I read it in the Daily Mail.

Just show how standards have slipped since the 50's. How many people do you see in balaclavas these days ? let alone doff it to a laydy. Mind, the wimmins libbers would probably cry 'rapist' if you did.

    OK, some fair points...

However, until muggers etcetera start wearing Muslim attire to commit crimes or there is a huge crimewave involving Muslim women (either aren't that likely) it still remains an IF.

Take your point about the SAS (although the British Army over the years has hardly ALWAYS been a force for good) but the fact is criminals of all stripes have utilised the balaclava to commit crimes.

I don't disagree with Jack Straw's contention that Muslim women should remove their veil when dealing directly with other people but equally I don't think ANY religious insignia or attire should be made illegal without very good reason. Not only that, you ban Muslim women wearing veils in public you also, by default, ban women attending funerals in veils - in the eyes of the law it would be the same difference...

We (meaning the white English population) can't dictate what each religion wants to wear i accept that. The point i'm trying to make is that a muslim woman could quite happily walk into a bank and go about her business with her veil on and no one would dare ask her to remove it. But if i walked in wearing a hooded top or a crash helmet i would be asked to take it off. FACT. This is for obvious security reasons.

See where i'm coming from, Its the whole covering your identity thing... crucifixes, skull caps, and the like do none of this...

Yes but waving your penis at the Mayoress isn't doffing in the traditional sense of the word.</p>

It's the sort of thing someone should tell you beforehand, I reckon.

I blame the schools. Etiquette should be on the curriculum.

    It should.

Lesson one - if under ten years old, don't call anyone over 6 feet and nearing 40 "mate". It's just f**king wrong.

Not that it's happened to me, obviously.

    Just reading ...

    ... "The God Delusion".
    Very interesting piece of work.

When I say "read" - I obviously mean "look through the pictures".

Just waiting for the Sundance Kid to say "What would they say in Muslimia if I wanted to put a Church up? eh? eh?".
