It's more to do with what he's failed to do.

Marketing isn't a fundamental!? Kin ell. Try telling that to coca cola, Manchester United and EVERY other consumer or sporting brand in the developed world.

No someone on our board that can generate income off the field therefore ensuring a competitive wage budget on it. And to be honest l gave up on your post on the marketing/fundamental part.

As general manager he is responsible for all those things. Particularly pricing, match day experience, marketing and PR. I'll let him off the chairman bit.

No, he's part of the wider problem. Name one initiative that he has instigated that has produced lasting commercial success or growth.

That's my point, his job is to drive growth and success in the clubs commercial activity, which I believe he has failed miserably to do. Anyone can cut costs in a business to break even, but actually driving change and success requires skill and a strategy.

Does he employ interns in the commercial and marketing team? If not then he can't be struggling that much. I'm currently recruiting interns in to my team in Switzerland, so if I can do it out there then I'm sure Don can do it in the UK. Procter and Gamble and most other major brands/brand owners use interns as an essential part of their business functions.

I don't think don does enough.

Just to clarify I obviously understand you need marketing ins business, what I mean is it's not a fundamental failure with regards the actual survival of the club, we have special offers but we could do more and our prices are fundamentally too high yes, but really what do people want? Prime time adverts on ITV? The fact is we are Barnsley FC not Coca Cola or Man Utd and we never will be, that's not small-time thinking that's reality. What I was trying to say mostly though is that the club will not go bust in the foreseeable future and DR along with PC has been part of giving us that security.

But if he is not given the resources to do such a job, what's a guy to do?... The problem is beyond DR in my view. He can only do what he is allowed to do

There's a hell of a lot he and the club can do with a limited budget. He just doesn't seem to know how.

So "not going bust" is the club's vision? I'd actually like to know what the club's vision and goals are, because they have never been communicated to the fans.

It's this kind of thinking that is dragging the club backwards

    So short sighted.

Every business needs a marketing strategy, regardless of size.

Coca Cola, Waitrose, Barnsley FC, the local corner shop.

Marketing, now more than ever, is pretty much fundamental to a business succeeding. Especially one that must turn over £6 million plus a year.
