When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss Been a firefight ever since.
1 season of relative success under Basset in 99/00, but other than that since 1998/99 up to 2005/06 it was steady decline - not only on the pitch but in the well being of the club off it - it will be a long job to get back to truly 'established' Championship status. Which is why when folk talk about this where we 'deserve' to be as if nothing has changed since we got relegated to League 1 it makes me laugh. No club 'deserves' or 'has a right' to be anywhere - it has to be earnt. What happened in the 80's up to the mid 90's means fck all. It's the here and now.

Davey Has Brought in 50 players Davey has built 4 teams with the players he has brought in.... Last season we had a squad which was a top 12 side BUT a manager of Conference level who could not get the best from them. Facts speak the truth... 3 years of poor performanve and 25 games and 5 wins in the last 25 games.
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss Exactly. 100% right. I said the same thing at Oakwell only last Saturday and was looked at like I'd just admitted to humping a goat.
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss If you'd mentioned humping a goat in the East stand you'd have been alright...

RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss Yes we're not as tolerant with alternative lifestyles in the Ponty end
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss so when Danny Wilson left then...
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss It's all with hindsight but putting a complete novice in charge just after relegation from the Prem, with the hightened expectations and a budget like never before was at best poor decision.
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss To be fair i and a few others said at the time it was a very poor decision by John Dennis. The minute it was announced I thought there's no way we'll be going straight back up.
That's amazing, 50 players. How can you build a successful team when you're constantly chopping and changing. Most managers have a view how the want their teams to play and go out and get the players they think will fit into their system. You get near to what you want then get a few players to improve and complement the others, not just randomly get players in and hope something works.
If Bassett had been appointed that year... ...and had been given the 3 million or whatever Hendrie spent then I honestly believe we would've gone straight back up.
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss I just remember Radio Sheff announcing it and I thought it was a wind up. I'm just glad it didn't totally sour the memory of Hendrie's time with us - because he was awesome in our promotion year.
You not protesting on Saturday ? Hope the police dogs are starved from today and the water cannons are to hand.
RE: When the old board cashed in on Neil Redfearn and appointed John Hendrie as boss It nearly did tarnish his image though. I'll never forget the game when he subbed Matty Appleby and the whole crowd booed the decision. Hendrie was playing that day and when i watched the highlights later on the look on his face was one of a broken man. Still a legend though and rightly so.
In Tykesmad fantasy world where banners and letters matter, 8 million quid later you're still not doing enough. Has that rig been announced yet?
I like it when one or two think they speak for all BFCST not being an example at all.
EIA done - waiting on rig details apparently. Rear view cameras an option...

RE: Nail on the head. Wednesday and Liverpool-esque behaviour. Thought we had more about us than that.
I think the heightened expectation since the prem has been an albatross round our neck. We've never taken the time to build gradually to success, and the one real successful season was, imho, a betrayal of the clubs long term future to have one push at promotion against our footballing principles. Bassett stripped the club of real assets to replace them with his old mates who at best had a season left in them, all dependent on Hignett doing the business. I don't think we ever recovered from that season.
