That's true but players tend to improve dramatically as they get older. Is the same true with managers? I can't think of any examples of a manager who has been abysmal and then suddenly become a brilliant manager

Is that because Managers are discarded too quickly sometimes?
Abysmal is subjective too, is it results based or entertainment based as an example?
Collins results haven’t been abysmal this season although it is fair to say most of the performances haven’t been entertaining.

If we employ Steve Evans, I'm burning my plastic season card.

90% of clubs in the Division have no money, we can't use that as an excuse, Stevenage, Lincoln and Oxford won't be swimming in pound coins.
This fact we are obsessed with trying to turn over a profit on every player rather than build has caught up with us.
When we sold our 2 centre backs last summer there had been zero succession planning, the fact we knew Mads was going and we've ended up playing Williams there for a large chunk of the season is shambolic, We could have brought in older experienced players on freebies but chose not to because there was no resale value and there lies the issue.

I was speaking with a Sheffield United supporter on Saturday who is one of Marc Roberts' best mates. Seemingly Marc is out of contract with Birmingham City and took the opportunity to head north to go to a game where he knew Collins would be in attendance. He's seeking a Club for next season. My reply was that Roberts is too old and doesn't fit our recruitment model.

Unless we have a planned successor in place, he stays til end of season.
A short termer won't have the time to make a difference., unless *maybe* a Hecky type who would not be scared of a few home truths. Warnock is done. He's had his day. Please no.

What I would get rid of today is Stead and the GK coach. Chocolate fireguards.

Dreading them. Three 'cup finals' ......... we haven't strung three games together all season.

We've fallen to bits. And had we been like this all season then I could understand all the ill feeling. But we haven't, we had very few losses, long runs with no losses at all, we've scored loads of goals and firmly put to bed the theory we can't adapt in a game and can't win the match after failing behind.

Can we turn it around? I don't know, but the results across the season point more to us being able to than not.

No ill feeling here as such. Just apathetic. Fallen to bits hits the nail on the head.
I don't quite agree with your 'results across the season' and 'had we been like this all season' bits .......... the first three quarters of the season is to the current quarter exactly what the Port Vale result is to last night's.
I agree we have the ability to turn it around but on current form I am doubting we have the mentality.

Hope Saturday gives us a much needed morale boost.

Sad but true, what they fail to realise is a squad with 3/4 very experienced pro's will pay dividends developing the younger lads

Duff had a good core defence to start with... having better players makes a big difference.

It would be so Barnsley if we went up under Collins who would then be rewarded with a new 5 year contract.

Personally I don’t have an issue with the principal of signing players with a resale value (with odd exceptions).
The bigger issue for me is twofold in that our pipeline is never full and maintained and even bigger is we don’t t seem to have a long term plan for the club.
