I understand about it bringing communities together and the importance of the race.

I think some people didn't get the sarcasm in my first post.

Saying that though, my girlfriend is a nurse that works at the LGI. Working tonight, Saturday and Sunday all 12 hour shifts. Tomorrow morning she won't be able to get back home other than walk right around to the ring road on the west of the city which will take more than an hour because of the roads being closed off. She's not fussed over cycling either.

I think it's great that it's in Yorkshire and what it's doing for villages and the people that love cycling. But it one of those 'it's great but I wish it wasn't here' things for us. Causing a fair amount of problems for my other half to get to and from her job, which really isn't the easiest job to do in the first place. I'd be dead after doing what she does.

I have my reasons, just didn't put them across at first. Thought the sarcasm would show through.

You know that there are loads of pedestrian crossing points on the route?

lol not directed at anyone inparticular, but its got my name on :D.

question of the thread was where are you watching it, it said im not and gave a reason.

I havent dissed it, said its rubbish etc. I have no doubt its good for the area it passes through and Im certainly not against it.

I just don't have an interest at all. The last bike I had was a mongoose bmx when I was about 10.

The disagreement I had with my mother was that she thought i should go just because i may not see it again. I honestly couldn't care less if I didn't. But i wouldn't hav e ago at any one who does. just not my cup of tea

We didn't. She had a look last night on the website and it just showed all the roads that were closed.

Just passing on what she had told me. I'll let her know about the crossings though. Cheers for letting me know

Fair enough. I know someone in a similar situation.

But, for that one person, I know hundreds, and I do mean hundreds, who are involved in doing something that will be a memorable, once in a lifeltime thing, (whatever it is), on Sunday.

Getting the impression that you can't have an eloquent debate.

Think what you wish, but you obviously know nothing about me if you think I just want to moan and stay in Yorkshire.

And that's great, it really is. It'd be the same as if the World Cup was here, I'd be going mental whereas others wouldn't. Each to their own.

Now that me and my other half know that there's crossing for her to be able to get back, it's become a whole lot better.

Should be a great day for people

I wanted to make a general reply, rather than setting up a new thread... (I know how you love those) ...it wasn't directed at you, rather at people in general who seem to be negative about the event. I just put it somewhere .... nowt personal!
Just trying to highlight the difference the event has made to hundreds of people who also aren't usually interested in TDF or cycling.

I see how you were making the general point, I was just replying with my reasons why I'm not fussed about it, wasnt specifically aimed at you either :)

I am actually hoping it makes Leeds centre a lot more cycle and pedestrian friendly.

Saw the plans on Look North the other day and it would be loads better.

Good stuff mate, was said to hopefully be helpful! Wherever there are barriers (there will be a surprising amount of areas where there won't be any) there are regular stewarded crossing points. I only know because we had a briefing at work about York road closures.

I'll be in Harrogate tomorrow & somewhere on Woodhead between Holme Moss & Langsett Sunday.

Can't wait for it, watched the sport since the 90's.

I can understand how it could be boring for 'casual's' but when you understand the race & follow it it's fantastic to watch & work out what's going off.

There'll be at least 5 races within one.

Teams working for the stage win, the overall, the team classification, the mountains jersey & the sprints jersey.

Hopefully Cav can win tomorrow but I've got a feeling that Kittel's the man now & he'll beat him more often than not

I couldn't give a monkey's. The only good thing for me is that some of the shocking roads over the moors from Langsett via The Strines that I travel on to go to my walking routes have been resurfaced, a tad late for my suspension but hey ho, thank you, can we see the rest of the cart tracks over that area resurfaced, no, dint think so, well what about the road to donny through Darfield, now that's shocking on a bike every day of the year, no, well what about....... oh **** it.

We actually only got the tour here because the Yorkshire Terrier is the most popular small dog in France and the Tour guys wanted to see where it came from.

Might watch it if I'm not doing anything else.

It doesn't interest me. I know you are a fan, and that is okay....for you.

    But not for others.
