    Wheatsheaf at townend around 1967, cant remember the price, hic, could have a great night for £1, i was earning about £4.10 bob as an apprentice, luxury

    heard a story about a bus load of Maccams going into Mexborough It was on their forum when they played us last year .
    Used to go in Corner Pocket (I think that’s what it’s called ) somebody called Adam I think his name was used to open doors with his head lol

    I can't believe that so many people can remember these details. I can remember roughly what year it was but I can only narrow it down to two maybe three pubs and I have no idea how much it cost.

    My memory for these things is rubbish.

    My grandad was landlord at "The Commercial Inn" on Summer Lane from 1940 until 1956, so I had minute amounts of beer in my shandies as a little lad, but the first pint I bought was at "The Coach and Horses" at the junction of Sheffield Road and Cemetery Road when I was a 6th former at Holgate. Barnsley Bitter at 1 shilling and 10 pence. You could get 10 pints and half a dozen bags of crisps for £1 then.

    Will have either been the Friendship in Redbrook or the Portcullis, Pitt Street. I drank cider as a youth. Was about 1980, I will have been 15. Both places used to have DJs on playing a mixture of mod stuff, new romantic, etc
