I remember seeing that photo in the Chronic. A few years ago. Mitchell's Main in the background. To the left of the cyclist is the old vehicle scrap yard which became Priestley's factory & then Perfecta. I remember seeing one of the chimney stacks being felled. In the late 50's/early 60's. the cyclist was heading for Aldham Bridge (it was called Aldam on a signal box by the junction.). The railway bridge over the canal was used as a diving stage in summer. Again, I do not think that the canal was that deep bit is did not put some of the dare devils off.
If that is Darfield 2 it is a preserved loco. It featured on MR. Portaloo's Great Railway Journeys. Amazing really that a colliery loco has been preserved.
my mates dad used to drive it..it was a long time ago tho' his dad died when we were about 10 years old,
Poggy old reck and then Poggy new reck. On backs behind chippy in Old Town. Opposite St Pauls Field where Barnsley General hospital is now.
Brierley Park mate. Height of summer, used to be enough lads for 11 a side. Summer of 1990 must have spent hours there. Had done my GCSE's by mid June, Italia 90, brill weather. Life was bloody good, and bloody simple!! Pitches still there, I think Brierley Cubs are based there. Sent from my SM-T210 using Tapatalk
