At home matches there's not a Barnsley person near me. The people I talk to are from Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Wakefield. I guess at a push I could say someone from Penistone, but that's Sheffield code.

But isn't it also relative to what else you can do on a saturday afternoon for the same price?
I've no idea what other entertainment there was on a saturday afternoon back then but for the £64 that it costs for a family of four (two adults, two children) to watch 90 minutes of football the family could go to the cinema at 'Valley Centertainment' in sheffield, watch a 2 hour film (£19), have a game of bowling (£13), go ice skating for another 2 and half hours (£21) and still have £11 to buy food.

    Of course

but to me that's a different form of entertainment, I think you need to put it in comparison to something like a concert or theatre, nothing comes close to the experience of a live event.

    Aye It Is.........

considering the Sheffield postcode of Penistone is the nearest to The Well. Point I think is maybe Barnsley people don't have as much cash :D :D :D Bloody hell they would have something to complain about cost wise if they were our Glasgow Reds or London Tykes for example.

I think thats true, average pay in all surrounding towns is higher than that in Barnsley. But it is not correct to imply most of the fans come from outside the borough. In fact that is plainly untrue. There are no official stats but I would guess well over 75% of the support comes from within Barnsley Borough proper!

How is average pay worked out

I'm assuming it's the average for jobs within the Borough so doesn't take into account people who live within the Borough but work outside of it. There's plenty of people commuting to Leeds and Sheffield for example.

Agreed That Most Of Our Fans Come From Barnsley

I just think it's silly that we have people from Barnsley complaining about the cost for an home match, when we have fans travelling for four or more hours from all over the the place and spending way more cash. I think the fans who are from Barnsley should think themselves lucky :) :) :)

    Cheers

I suspect it's for jobs in the Borough as otherwise I don't see how they could collect the stats.

For example though - the town of Halifax has the headquarters for the bank there and an IT site, so higher paid jobs there, however many people commute to those jobs and don't live in the Halifax borough yet those jobs will push the average up quite a bit.

RE: On the Contrary Form dictates attendance

Truth is that a lot of people have jumped on our bandwagons that are more football fans in general than Reds fans.

During the Clark and Hunter era my mate worked at Ferrybridge power station. Half of the blokes that worked there were attending our home games although they werent really reds fans.

Worst example was a Wendy fan who recently drove us to Hillsborough when we played them, purring over Glavin, Aylott, Banks et al. It turned out hed been a reds fan as a kid! How could he do it????

I wondered about that. Aren't the club turning a blind eye to people smoking in certain areas of the ground?

Why have they banned smoking tho?

surely the stands can't count as an enclosed space? have the club jus done it off their own bat?

Every ground in the country is no smoking

    Not an enclosed space?

Well I could escape from the stench of the the 10 *** an hour addicts I used to be surrounded by could I?

I knew most were I didn't really know if it was because of law, or it was the FA or the League, or if it was the clubs themselves? Well I dont think its enclosed no...there is the big gaping gale blowin in from the pitch!
