    Of course you know what I meant when I said we didn’t lose. And to labour a point we did play more fringe players than they did. But anyway, a different eleven will play Saturday and hopefully tonight had given the new manager food for thought. Which is all this competition is worth for teams our size.

    That’s clearly not what I said. But these competitions (in particular the league cup where stakes are low and prize money is also relatively low) are a good opportunity for development of fringe players and assessing the squad. Particularly being as we have a new manager who needs (relatively) competitive games to see the quality or lack of that he has beyond his starting 11.
