Can I be the first to say. I'm glad he's gone for a few quid. Call it cutting my nose off in spite of my face but I'd have sacked him after final whistle of Play-Off Final.
It just depends on the new appointment, who we hold onto and who we recruit. I guess it still does if Duff stays, however that stability would certainly help. So long as we don't do what we did after the season under Val, and task a new coach with completely changing the culture at the club for no apparent reason, I think we should be fine.
That is true and I’m sure come early August I’ll be like a kid on Christmas Eve again with excitement of sook being back inside Oakwell. I’ve seen your other posts over the past few days about not getting “attached” to players and coaches as they’re never here long enough and I’ve pretty much done that over the last couple of years but it felt different with Duff.
It’s the only way to be in today’s game. I vowed Heckingbottom would be the last time I got sucked in. Since then it’s served me well. Our managers have either been good and have left, or then haven’t and they’ve been sacked. The only way we should realistically expect to hold onto our better managers, is by getting promoted. It is what it is. If our next manager doesn’t get promoted next season, I’ll expect him to leave the club one way or another as well.
Need to appoint someone ASAP we have known since windass header he may get poached hope we have a shortlist.
Yes we can only hope that we have spoken to potential candidates already because they'll be no new signings until someones in place and we'll end up with the bargain basement again.
I agree, but for me this is why we should go for Disco. Whatever happens hes got no pedigree so I don't see others poaching him and if we dont go up, I'd hope he'd get another year before we sacked him.
Val didn’t have any pedigree either. I can almost guarantee you, if devaney takes over and gets beat in the play offs, a championship club will come for him. I’d start preparing now
I'll wait and see who comes in first. Only thing I'd say regarding next season is.. I bet both Bolton and Derby are pretty pleased we've turned a summer recess into a summer of turmoil. And the way Charlton finished the season I'd expect them to be up around the top few.
It's not him leaving that I mind (used to that) it's the long drawn out replacement process followed by excuses about a disruptive pre season. Let's see if we have learned any lessons yet?
Promote from within for me , it is a formula that has worked for us in the past, Norman Hunter , Danny Wilson, Andy Ritchie & Paul Heckingbottom all took over the reins whilst already being at the club & they all got promotion, its a no brainer for me as there is no compo involved , they know the players at the club & the style of play that suits plus it provides continuity , its got to be Patterson & Disco for me.
**** him if he goes, he’s not the first and he won’t be the last. Despite the speil he came out with when he arrived, he’s no more loyal than the next person. Like any employee in any industry. Such is life and we move on. I for one will not be dwelling on it that’s for sure. Far more important things to worry about tbh……
But what part have the board played in his retraction and wanting to move suddenly...my monies still on the you will play who "WE "say card...
How are we financially sound? The owners had to put significant capital into the club last season to keep us going. Without selling players this summer I'd be tempted to say that similar sums could be needed next season. I don't think we're as financially sound as you may think.
If that is the case, then we’re never going to move forward and get anywhere if the Board wanna play Football manager. May as well have stuck with Conway. (Maybe not actually)
