I don't buy it, there'll be no change in approach from the season just gone to looking ahead to the new season. Maybe there was some push to play players like Tedic for hia development (maybe, who knows), but Duff appeared to be selecting who he wanted to play. An assumption on my part, but I believe that to be true. It would have been spelled out to him how we operate when he joined. I reckon it's just a case of Swansea making an approach, and Duff entering into negotiations and listening to what they've got to say.
I doubt that is the case. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Duff saw the club’s values on players and plans to replace them if they left and thought to hell with this.
I've tried staying away from this until it's official, but it's hard to ignore. And in fairness, I do think he's going!. I'm disappointed with the Duffer but what were we expecting, do we have any right to expect players and coaches/managers to be loyal these days, even if they've only been here a year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65973956
Yeah that and the wasted opportunity to solidify and build on last season. I wish MD well, but the getting of a new coach. Then the who leaves, who stays.. New coach, which players does he like which doesn't he like... Then the "give him time" The "don't judge until 12 games, don't judge till Christmas, these aren't his player's".. "give him three windows" blah blah blah.. been here before, too many times.
Notwithstanding he has not actually gone (still a very small chance this whole, scenario will play out differently then we will all be left with a substantial amount of egg on faces) I think, if he does, any optimism for next season goes with him. Managerless during most of the transfer window means recruitment of new players is pretty much on hold and attracting them to an unknown situation will be hard. Good managers are hard to find and ones that can makes a seamless transition to continue building on the current system nigh on impossible. Holding onto key players is made even harder and who is to say some, who otherwise would have been inclined to stay under the current manager, wont now jump ship, either going with Duff or to other clubs? This applies one or two non-playing staff too. It makes a mockery of the alleged concept of steady growth and long term development BFC keep espousing. Back to square one at the start of each season is not that. BFC is like the game you used to always be in the 'compendium of games' someone would buy you for Christmas when you were a kid amongst the Ludo and Tiddlywinks i.e. 'Snakes and ladders' except with that you did at least occasionally make it to the top!! Sorry I do not share others optimism on here that BFC is going anywhere. It is not BFC I blame as, IMO , they are victims of the fact that 'football is fu**ed'
Just because I don’t know enough about anyone else out there I’d go for Stendall or Disco and hope for the best.
I can definitely see why people might feel like it's back to square one. Seems like the only way we can break the cycle is by getting promoted. If we don't, the manager is likely to leave, one way or the other. Ad nauseam.
What we needed last season was a win lose win lose mid table borefest, with a bit of a flurry at the end showing things were coming together. No-one would have batted an eyelid at the management or the players and we'd have had a clear shot at this season's title. Oh well, maybe this time around...
