Pretty Woman. All time favourite film. I know every line. Sound of Music, And the High School Musical films due to kids.
I'd guess this thread ended up being favourite films rather than 'most-often-viewed', either way excellent shout that man, 'The Natural' and 'The Right Stuff' are two of my favourite films of all time. I'd also offer: Scent of a Woman Dirty Harry Local Hero Mr Smith goes to Washington Die Hard Field of Dreams City Slickers Rear Window Nobody's Fool Once upon a time in the West Star Wars Trilogy (original trilogy obviously, not the cr*p that came later)
Trainspotting - the most important film of my generation's youth. Not just for its depiction of the worst effects of Thatcherism when the Tory party as she created it was in its dying days, but also for its soundtrack. A celebration of Britpop and everything that came before it, and the transition into electronic music, blurring the boundaries between indie and dance. A seminal work, which I can never get bored of. Labyrinth - a box office flop when it was released, but years ahead of its time. In the era of advanced computer animation some of the effects look dated, but 30 years on Henson's puppets still look fresh, original, and utterly convincing. It was regularly on at Christmas when I was a kid, and my daughter loves it just as much now as I did then. And Bowie is absolutely incredible. Camp and ridiculous, yet utterly menacing.
Slightly off topic but any fans of Master and Commander and the Patrick O'Brian books might be interested in Thomas Cochrane Britannia's Sea Wolf by Donald Thomas. Cochrane actually did for real what O'Brian writes about. He was a terrific character who took on the admiralty and made himself unpopular with them to the cost if his career. Trafalgar apart his exploits outshone Nelson. The book is well written, certainly not a history text book. Worth a read if you can get hold of it.
Really good too parter. First half hilariously funny re the royal visit, second half heartbreaking. Typical Ken Loach. Can be watched on youtube if anyone's interested. A lot of old Loach Films being aired on there, with his permission.
I absolutely love Labyrinth! We watched it at primary school every year around Christmas time and only ever got up to the exact same point - about an hour in - before it was home time or dinner time or whatever. It used to enter my head every so often after leaving and I finally figured out which film it was about 5 years ago and watched it all the way through.
It's absolutely magical isn't it? That's a great story about your school! Did they not think to organise it so you could see the end?!
Voluntarily - The Longest Day or Where Eagles Dare or Brassed Off - watched 'em all so much that I couldn't distinguish the most Involuntarily - Dirty Dancing
Millwall v Barnsley, filmed on location at Wembley Stadium, London, UK, starring Paul Heckingbottom, Ashley Fletcher, Adam Hammill and Lloyd Isgrove.
Throughout the 1990's, we bought quite a few Disney videos for the kids to watch. The likes of Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan, The Lion King, would all be high on the list (probably with a load more that have slipped my mind!).
